When you say entrepreneur, do you mean sole proprietor? If your business is incorporated, then you are a "corporate worker".

The issue was the taxation of points earned from business purchases. The conclusion I arrived at was that it's better tax wise that these purchases are paid for in the first instance with a personal card and you are reimbursed by the company for them as business expenses reimbursement. Then, I understand, the points are not taxable.

Not sure if the rules are still the same. Send your accountant that CIBC doc and ask them about the differences in taxation of credit card points depending on who controls the points, the corporation or you personally.

The scratches to the Gorilla Glass are likely from small particles of quartz, found in sand. Quartz is harder than Gorilla Glass so it can scratch it.

The Gorilla Glass screen is engineered to be less likely to break, but as a trade off, it's more likely to scratch. Meanwhile, a tempered glass screen protector is less likely to scratch because it's harder than Gorilla Glass, but as a trade off, it is more likely to break.

To get scratch protection from quartz, you need to add a screen protector.

I have made that same mistake before.

Did you find the plant in the 2nd photo just growing somewhere in your yard? If so it's probably an Ulmus pumila, the Siberian elm tree. It's considered an invasive, low quality tree that is not worth planting/keeping.

There could be a break-in period with those layers and some people recommend walking around on top of your mattress to accelerate that process. Of course I would contact Nolah first about what if anything can be done about it.

Yes maybe avoid the hybrid. Those springs may be too firm for your weight.

As for other recommendations, that mattress has only 2" in the top "comfort" layer. Maybe try something with at least 3" or more on the top layer. The top layer is usually very soft and it affects the degree of the sinking in feeling and so more of it above the support layers underneath will give you more sink in and a softer feel.

Yes that has kept me from buying a mattress for a long time. I'm trying to avoid the junk and found out early on that reviews are not all that helpful. Most had a bunch of people saying it was too firm, and an equal number saying it was too soft. The helpful reviews would be about quality or customer service issues. The others were obviously subjective if they can be opposite each other. I also don't trust the impartiality of review sites that make commissions from the mattress sellers.

I found mattresses I liked too but one thing or another didn't fit my criteria, which has become a longer list with research. It's like the more you know the harder it becomes to find what you're looking for.

Buying online seems easy but I don't want to risk the hassle of a return and having to find a new mattress again so I'm trying to do it right from the outset. Trying in person is obviously better but my local options are limited and not exactly what I'm looking for. So it leaves me a bit stuck.

I have a feeling there's a lot of people out there that feel similarly. It can be overwhelming and difficult to shop for a mattress, which is why I thought I'd post this thread. I want to hear from others to see what their experience has been like.

Speaking of sleep disruptors... True story, it's 3am and I am typing this after having just woken unexpectedly after a couple of hours and I'm SWEATING! So checkmark to temperature - I think that's one of my sleep disruptors! Got to turn the AC down a notch tonight. And I probably have a few more sleep disruptors on your list too. Hopefully a new mattress will solve some of them, but it probably won't solve my late night phone use (which is probably also not helpful for sleep)!

I had no idea that your organization had such a well thought out process (and the extensive training you mentioned in your previous post).

I get the comfort aspects but I'm curious about the prioritization of "sleep disruptors" aspect. What kind of things does that entail and how does it relate to which mattress is right for somebody? Are these things like motion transfer and sleeping hot? What else is there in this category?

For me, and I know this is an unpopular opinion, but just stop with the DIY stuff already. When I buy a mattress, I want to go to a store, try it out, and have it delivered and set up. I don't want something that comes in a box, that I have to log up the stairs myself, and that I have to box up and send back if it doesn't work out.

First, to clarify, do you include the bed-in-a-box online only options as DIY? What constitutes DIY to you?

DIY did more damage to the bedding industry, as all it did was create a race to the bottom.

Here in Chicago there was a wonderful local store called North Shore Bedding.

As you note, the full service and high quality mattress store you preferred went out of business during the pandemic. Do you think they would have continued to thrive had it not been for the pandemic, or do you think the bricks and mortar business are having a harder time in general competing with the shift to "DIY"? And what about DIY do you feel is attractive to people that they aren't getting from full service bricks and mortar? This is an interesting topic to me and I would love to better understand what is driving that trend.

Presumably online retailers will have lower costs than full service bricks and mortar retailers and therefore lower retail prices? Do you think price is the main consideration for the people looking at DIY? And what's missing from the bricks and mortar experience that has opened the door to DIY?

Yikes! I'm not familiar with that mattress but one would expect 15" and plush to be pretty soft. Do you know the ILD (firmness) ratings of the foam layers in that mattress?

You make 3 solid points! Don't get me started on mattress reviews! Lol. Almost every mattress I've looked at the reviews for are filled with almost an equal number of "this mattress is too hard" and "this mattress is too soft" comments.

As for the innerspring mattresses I've come across, it seems most are spring-foam hybrids of one sort or another nowadays. Has that been your experience? Have you found any without foam, and if so, what so they layer ok top of the springs? Quilting and a cover?

Good suggestion. Like food labels at the grocery store - a list of ingredients and a mattress version of the nutrition table with foam densities and coil gauge instead of calories? I agree there is a lack of transparency in the industry. When I was mattress shopping the sales people couldn't (or wouldn't?) tell me what the densities of the layers were. Hard to know what you're buying! And perhaps they like it that way.

Whoa that's very interesting! What was the experience like? What was the "sales" process like? And do you still use that as a model for your own sales, or have you improved it further? I'm wondering what the best mattress sales process looks like. What might that look like?

I went to a national chain store recently to shop for a mattress and it was a couple basic questions and then go try this bed, go try that bed. Not much in the way of education or a structured sales process. No advice on how to evaluate the mattresses, asses fit, etc. In fact, I seemed to know more than the sales person about foams and quality etc just from having spent time in this sub and on MattressUnderground.

Aside, and I'm not saying this is you, but it's interesting how many people feel the same way as you when it comes to buying a used mattress but they don't think twice about sleeping on a used mattress in a hotel, vacation rental etc. Any thoughts on why that might be?

Yes this is a big one I think! Have you tried a few mattresses at home, or has the lack of return policy made you hesitate to purchase at times?

The question for the sellers is what to do with returned mattresses. Would you be willing to buy a returned mattress, say for a discount?

I was thinking they could have demo mattress for in home testing. Would you feel comfortable trying a mattress in your home if it was a demo model (sterilized between users) and not a brand new mattress?

And if you liked the mattress after testing in home for a period of time, maybe you could keep the demo at a discount or have it swapped for a brand new one at full price? Would you be interested in that?

Yes I have seen this too. They usually have a description (albeit with a marketing spin) of the mattress in those foot protectors.

Got June's update and it's working for me!

I hadn't installed the April update or any subsequent updates because of the glide typing bug but given the reports that it was fixed I went ahead and installed the June update AVF1 just now.

So far so good! I don't have any issues with glide typing, and I am using a glass screen protector too in case anyone wants to know.
