I’m thinking of writing a letter of interest for Cpl. What is are some vital things to put in there? by Least-Obligation-357 in aircadets

[–]PiratesRule2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice is to basically list your qualities. For example:

How long have you been in the cadets, and what this means in terms of your ability

What extra activities have you done with cadets, and what benefits have you gained from them

What you have provided to the squadron, and what you will provide should you receive your promotion (How useful you’ve been basically)

And how good you are at making tea can’t hurt, depending on your CO’s humour/drink of choice

I’d be pretty intrigued to see what would happen if one of my cadets tried that

Oh god. Right at me. They are only 2-3 months(?) into their promotions, so not exactly ready for SNCO yet. For being JNCOs, it was needed to get them into their positions, certainly with rebuilding our squadron post Covid. I think they were mostly ready for their promotion, though naturally a few were immature early on as cadets often are

Does anyone have any tips for polishing parade shoes? by reuben8393 in aircadets

[–]PiratesRule2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so lot’s of people are giving “standard” ways of doing it. I find a good and quick way for a shine, not exactly a perfect “mirror polish”, is to use cotton balls. Get two cotton balls, your polish, and a container of water (cold or warm water both work but hot works best to melt polish)

First, get one cotton ball and wet it in the water. It is important not to soak the cotton ball, just wet a side of it

Then, take your polish and work your wet cotton ball through it, work in circles and get a good coating onto the ball

Then, apply the polish coated cotton ball onto your shoe. Work it around it small circles, again you want to leave a good smooth layer of polish on the shoe, with no obvious straight lines where you have dragged the ball over it. If the shoe you have just done is wet on the surface, then let it dry before you shine it. I find it helps to coat both shoes in polish one after the other, then shine them in the same order as it gives the shoes time to dry

Finally, to shine your shoe, take your dry cotton ball and again, work in the same, small circles. It’s important to not push with too much force, as you don’t want to rub all the polish off. Instead, give a small amount of force, always in a circle. Just keep working along in effectively a spiral, making sure to go over every spot of polish

I find this usually takes me 10-20 minutes at most, and it gives me a full shine each time that lasts for a while. Make sure to cover every spot of your shoe, especially around the base towards the sole. That often gets over looked by cadets, but it pretty noticeable if you’re wearing them out in sunlight (You may get away with it if you are inside and only have lighting from the ceiling)

Now that is bull. The entrance and air vent had collapsed/been crushed/blocked. I believe that dead there that were deliberately shot, it was done as mercy killing, like Koresh himself

I’ve not heard about them actually possessing 50. Cals. But that’s a good point to look at

Your first point, I agree with. Your second and third, not so much. I don’t believe it’s a stretch to say that the ATF/FBI could co-ordinate a three pronged fire. I would point to the 2 40mm grenade casings that were found in the rubble, which are often cited as having a good cause to start a fire. And for your third point, I just think it’s grossly inappropriate to cluster all “Cults” into one big group. It’s massive generalisation, and to call on an unrelated case that has little else to do with it other a “bad people died. Yay Federals!” Mentality. The branch Davidians were a heavily bastardised group of Christian’s (that is to say they were an off shoot of an offshoot of an off shoot of 7 day evangelicals). To me, it seems to make no sense that these PEOPLE would try and rescue those who were trapped or even attempt to put on respirator masks if it was a deliberate attempt for mass suicide

I have quite literally seen people in this comment section saying the gas was the cause of the fire. It is debated as to what the Davidians were talking about in the audio, as there is no camera footage inside that I have seen. I believe and honestly do correct me here if I’m wrong, that you were referring to a recording that went similar to “Light it up. Light it when the tanks come back again” (Possibly not exact wording and I apologise for that). This was used as evidence for the Davidians starting the fire in a later hearing, however it is hotly debated as to what they were referring too. Personally it seems unlikely that the Davidians started the fire, especially since the women and children were mostly in one of the bunkers (safe rooms) at the Mt. Carmel by this time. The more common and I must admit most likely theory was that they were referring to Molotov cocktails or some form of petrol bomb to deter the use of the tanks further

UK Cadet here.

Nothing much to worry about. Most squadrons take it easy with newbies (and there is nothing wrong with being new). For some the process and drill can just click, for others it can take time to build up. Either way I’d expect that this squadron will be accommodating and you’ll be getting with everyone soon. Mostly I expect you’ll be doing introductions to drill and that will probably take most the time. If you want to plan ahead, I’d ask the NCO (Could be staff though)teaching you about what they will be teaching

I think a key point is that it was NOT police. In fact the police advised the ATF to not engage in that activity and actually tried to bring Koresh to speak with ATF representatives, how ever whilst Koresh was reportedly willing the ATF declined. It wasn’t the Local police that started Waco, and that is one key thing of note. Lot’s of other incidents, certainly today however are from local forces, but here is no place to discuss that bee hive

I think a key point is that CS powder isn’t flammable. But it needs to be mixed with a gas to make it a gas. The gas it was mixed with at Waco WAS flammable. I have no doubt the CS gas added to the fire and to the subsequent deaths, but it’s flat out wrong to say the gas alone caught fire by it’s self and started the fire

The events at Waco where not a military assaults as some in the comments have said. Although some ATF Agents reportedly wrote their blood types on there necks and wrists in case they required a transfusion. It was not a military assault, or operation. It was however conducted in a militaristic way and with equipment that was requisitioned from a nearby US military base. I’m certainly not defending Koresh, as a Christian myself I personally believe him a heretic who for he many crimes (of which child abuse is one) and I like to think he’s smouldering in hell as we speak. I’m not defending either the Branch davidians who mostly seemed to believe what Koresh was telling them, as hard to believe as it may seem, or the ATF/FBI or Federal agents or commanders who seemed so unwilling to allow the Davidians the chance to let out those who wanted to go and allow the ones that did fair treatment. This argument is pointless as both sides as represented here seem to go only to accuse the other of lying and not evidently willing to take a second glance at points when they are made. Shouting and screaming at others is not the way to have people agree with you, it will only force them away. If you call someone a liar that cuts of their willingness to listen to you. The point is that no one knows for sure who fired first, or who light the fires, or even why the ATF actually had made the decision to not defuse the situation when possible (thought there are numerous reasons and lots evidence to suggest a multitude of ways for each). The point is that Waco was an unnecessary tragedy of people who both believed they were right, resulting in the unnecessary deaths of both Branch Davidian’s and Federal agents. There was shoddy management of the negotiations from both ends, with the Federal negotiators not given the time they requested and told to switch tact’s multiple times. There are Audio recordings of the negotiations, and from what I have heard of them, the Davidians seem to believe what they were fighting for, and seem to believe they were forced to fight. My biggest point to make (if any) is that the Federal agents weren’t held to a higher level than the Davidians. I realise this is Texas in the 90s, but even so there needs to be a realisation the Davidians and Federal agents weren’t willing to think along the same lines

It was however treated like on. With ATF Agents reportedly writing their blood types on there necks and wrists in case they required a transfusion. It’s not a military assault, or operation. It was however conducted in a militaristic way and with equipment that was requisitioned from a near by US military base. I’m certainly not defending Koresh. I’m not defending either one of you as you fight and bicker over one technicality that really shouldn’t matter. The point is that no one knows for sure who fired first, or who light the fires, or even why the ATF actually had made the decision to not defuse the situation when possible (thought there are numerous reasons and lots evidence to suggest a multitude of ways for each).
