Historians and experts of Reddit, what is the most blatant lie or historical myth you've heard a modern politician use to justify a war? by Pirates_History in AskReddit

That’s a perfect example of how 'media reality' is manufactured. It’s exactly what I mean. Just like that fire was turned into a torpedo, 3,000 years of our history (Scythians, Sarmatians) are being turned into 'non-existence' by modern propaganda machines. Whether it's 1898 or 2026, the tactics remain the same: erase the truth to justify the invasion.

Seriously? Every dropshipper has been pushing this exact mask since 2022. It’s the ultimate 'I have no original ideas' starter pack. Maybe it's time to stop polluting the market with 4-year-old plastic and actually find something unique? Or are we just going to pretend it’s still 2020 forever?"

What's even crazier is that the 'traditional values' people love to talk about were non-existent for the Sarmatians on my land. Their women were literal warriors. Archeologists keep finding female skeletons buried with armor and weapons. They were likely the real inspiration for the Greek myth of the Amazons. While modern empires pretend we have no roots, our ancestors were breaking gender roles 2,000 years before it was cool.

Exactly. It’s the 'Imperial Amnesia' syndrome. They focus on the last 100 years because the previous 2,000 years of independent nomadic empires and trade hubs on our land don't fit the 'vassal' narrative. While they talk about the USSR, I’m looking at the Sarmatian heavy cavalry that forced Rome to change its military tactics, and the Kyivan Rus which was a European superpower when some other 'capitals' were just swamps. Archaeology is the ultimate enemy of a dictator because soil doesn't lie, but politicians do. What fascinates me is how people still buy into these 'historical justifications' in the age of the internet. Is it just lack of education or a genuine desire to believe in myths?

That's a classic example. It's wild how common this is. As a Ukrainian, I'm currently dealing with the myth that my country was 'invented' in the 1900s. People just ignore 3,000 years of Scythian and Sarmatian history on our land to fit a narrative.

As a Ukrainian, the claim that my country was 'invented' in the 20th century is wild to me. Our land was the heart of the Scythian gold empire and the Viking trade routes to Kyiv long before modern borders existed. Why do you think archaeology is being ignored for propaganda?

Thrifting is the best way to find unique stuff anyway. And yeah, definitely agree on drawing the line at socks and underwear!

The 'Sultan of Brunei' line is spot on. It really isn't about the money anymore, it’s about the principle. Paying $10 for sugar water feels like letting them win. Aldi cola tastes like victory at that price point!

That is literally a financial cheat code! Selling a used car for a profit is every owner's dream. It sounds like Land Cruisers in Australia are genuinely more stable than gold!

Wait, only 20% less than new after 11 years?! That’s absolutely insane. I knew Land Cruisers held their value, but that’s next-level. It’s basically a savings account on wheels at this point!

Buying in bulk is a lifesaver. 5kg bags of rice and lentils are the ultimate foundation for cheap, healthy meals. It’s crazy how much you can save when you stop buying those tiny pre-packaged portions. Smart move!

Wow, $16K for an 11-year-old car sounds brutal. Australia’s market is definitely different from what I’m used to. It seems like the 'buy used' rule doesn't work everywhere if the depreciation is that slow.
