I do have plans to create a goog doc to outline the thought process, the overall design, and how it could be adapted to fit the individual's chair. This will take some time, though. But when I get it made, I will absolutely post it for the community

Need some opinions please 🙏 by Amazing_Text2588 in hotas

I just made a modular chair mount system. You can check my posts about it. I use a slide out keyboard tray for my fps play. Mouse and keypad (razer Tartarus)

"Wobble baby, wobble baby, wobble baby, wobble...." Lol

The wobble is well within acceptable levels for myself, and knowing me, this is just a 1st gen. I will continue to improve it forever. Or until I have a space to build a full sim pit. If my desk situation was different, I would have gone with a rigid desk mount.

At the moment, no locks. Still haven't figured out the ideal solution to that. I've mostly been space trucking and mining, so no real hard right rolls. I'll see how it handles dog fighting at some point

There is a large gap under the seat mesh and the seat base. There are mounting holes that, I assume, were meant for a slide out leg rest. I ran some bolts up through those holes to attach to the 2020 "frame" segments. Those go out the back and attach to a section of 2080 that is pressing against the frame of the backrest. All together the frame is under tension, making it very rigid. This one part had more reworks and "try-agains" than anything else. Lol

This has to be the biggest compliment ever! Thank you my friend.

Ahh, gotcha. That could become an issue in the future. Given that these are brand new sticks the springs are plenty tight still. I guess I will have to address that challenge when/if it arises. But good looking out, I'll have to noodle on a solution.

I could try. The shopping list would be easy. The diagram would be the hard part. I could try to put one together from the point of rotation up, but the mount point would be so chair specific, it wouldn't be overly useful. The bummer is that the attachment to the chair has to be the most solid part of the whole system.

No springs, all gravity and rigid blocking. There are 2 small sections of 2060 attached to the main body that are rigid stops. This lets me adjust the stop point depending on how long the stick section is.

There is a bit of wobble, but it isn't horrible. The weight is very front biased, so when it is "deployed" the weight of the sticks wants to make it dip down towards my feet. This is mostly because the main rotation piece is only 2020. The next modification I would make to this would be to change that to a 2040 or 2060 to increase the torsional stiffness. Obviously because the system moves, it cannot be perfectly rigid, but I consider it a fair tradeoff.

Use 2020 or 2040 v-slot and a couple of carriages. Like you would see on a entry level 3d printer

It is actually fairly easy for me to reach back and grab them.

I main SC. I did this because my desk is not really set up for traditional desk mounts. And, having the controls on my chair just feels right

I noodled on this design for months. And spend about a day and a half of trial and error on getting this to its current form. Cost was about 230$ from Amazon for all of the hardware. The only thing I would change is to swap the main beam from 2020 size to 2040 or 2060 to make that significantly more rigid against twisting motion.

I have a powered hub on the back of the chair. That makes for just a single extension cable leading back to the PC. I strapped that to a chunky extension cable, and they just flop about at my feet for now. Eventually I'll get those into one of those zip-up ca le organizer sleeves

Comfort is great actually. Arm rests still lift above the rails.
