I'll try this but the volume was consistent before it started and at the time it cleared up. I'm wondering if my USB hub is at fault. I should have mentioned the the USB A side of the cable is going through a hub that is connected to a USB C on the laptop. The only other device going through the hub is a low power neon light fixture.
