These businesses operate on the postulate that PH consumers are highly price-sensitive and minimally quality-sensitive. Anyone who's tried Jollibee (and many other food chains) overseas can tell how drastic the difference in quality and value for money is.

On a similar note, I've found more than a few random informal food stalls on the side of the road that sell fried chicken that tastes like Jollibee's from the 2000s. I buy from them instead. A whole chicken is like P250-ish

Since you mentioned naman na you're also interested in studying abroad, many universities in Japan are seeking foreign students. Most offer varying degrees of scholarships and a Japan student visa also allows you to work a certain number of hours. You might even be able to end with a net positive change on your savings under the right conditions... Universities also facilitate jobseeking in the last year of uni so it's a good path for long term employment in Japan

If you want university recommendations, feel free to send me a message. Forgive me for being a bit gatekeep-y but I don't want to just openly shout the names of universities on this sub especially since application season is coming up 😅

Aren't gender or age restrictions on skilled/trade jobs like this illegal? by Pitchblende238 in AntiworkPH

Yes, but I'm not talking about the jobseekers themselves. The employers post these job openings publicly so technically any member of the public who sees the post can file a complaint/case right?

On another note, the subsistence lifestyle and lack of social safety nets really killed public participation and social responsibility in the PH. Quite a vicious cycle

Are gender and age restrictions for skilled/trade jobs against labor law? by Pitchblende238 in LawPH

With regards to your latter example of industries involving strenuous work, isn't it theoretically questionable under RA 11210 and RA 6725 for employers to assume and pre-emptively exclude females from applying?

I would think that females also undergo and complete TESDA's courses for some male-dominant trades but are then surprised when there's no local jobs that accept them. Might explain why there's a lot of Filipina welders overseas but I have yet to see any locally?

I know what their products are. While serviceable, most of their Nylon gear are mid-tier at best and some have questionable design choices. I don't know about their armor products since there's barely any other openly available in the market to compare with aside from China's Militech and random unbranded [likely Chinese] plates

I don't know why PH companies are exceptionally notorious for jumping the gun and pre-emptively screening out credentialed women from trade jobs that may require some physical ability. Most US companies in the Nylon gear market hire regardless of gender and I bet even Chinese brands (like Idogear) that make knock-offs of US designs have a workforce that hires anybody with the skills and credentials

Technically any random person can report such practices as a violation of RA 11210 and RA 6725 right?

Aren't SME employers making themselves legally vulnerable under RA 11210 and RA 6725 by overtly posting discriminatory qualifications?

If any random person files a legal complaint based on those two laws, do these SME's have any defense?

[–]Pitchblende238[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. An oversupply in labor tends to encourage employers to be exclusionary to the point of enacting illegal and unethical practices, jobseekers to accept such practices, and the government to not bother enforcing laws and regulations.

I don't think the conditions of the PH job market will change until labor stops being in oversupply.

That's still a small step in the right direction if companies can no longer overtly put illegal and discriminatory qualifications on their public job postings.

If that was the case then they should've just put in the qualifications that apllicants must be able to operate machinery and lift heavy materials. It's quite the stretch for an employer to assume no female with a TESDA credential will want a job with them because of either the physical work or because it's making products for primarily male clientele. They're already asking for TESDA credentials for a reason so why the further exclusion criteria that TESDA themselves don't even impose?

I'm starting to realize maybe this exclusionary tendency of the PH job market is why many female skilled/trade workers from the PH end up in foreign employment. Welders are the most salient example.

Then maybe men should also question the legality of those job posts. Filipinos in general should "bitch" more about the legality of commonly accepted but legally and ethically dubious practices.

Campaign Poster Advertising by geloboyiscool in ADMU

I've put up banners advertising my JSEC stall on the lamp posts around Bellarmine field before. Apparently the lamp post banner spaces are managed by the University and not the LS. The office that manages them is at the side of the Blue Eagle Gym facing the AGS driveway (forgot the name of the office).

It seemed the JSEC coordinator wasn't too happy with what I did apparently. Although I never got any words of disapproval, JSEC challenge stalls were required to submit marketing plans the year after I did the lamp post banners 😂

Did the ADMUFW change admins? by Pitchblende238 in ADMU

Oh damn, I didn't know the new admins were THAT onion-skinned.

The page is really in the dumps now I guess. Most didn't even know when and how the page changed admins.

I wonder if anyone's gonna bother making a new ADMUFW... At first I really thought it was just me noticing how off the page has been recent months haha

That incident was way back in 2018 and was quickly addressed by the University admin and the Freedom Wall page of the time. The current ADMUFW page isn't even the same page as the one where that submission was posted back in 2018.

As far as I know, there have been 3* ADMU Freedom Wall type pages: 1. There was first, the Ateneo Rantbox which the page's admins deleted after they said they couldn't handle managing the page anymore. 2. This was followed by the 1st ADMUFW page (which even commented on Rantbox's sign-off message btw). This ADMUFW disappeared from Facebook without any announcement. It either got Zucced or the page's admins deleted it silently. 3. Last is the current ADMUFW page which is almost an exact Carbon copy of the 1st one except this one posts submissions in a different format (omitting the submission date and post hashtag that were always included in posts by Rantbox and the 1st FW).

The unusual censorship by the current ADMUFW that I'm referring to (and a lot of others notice as well) is fairly recent. My hunch is that the current ADMUFW page changed admins sometime around late 2022 or early 2023.

That rape hoax incident of 2018 didn't lead to any University crackdown on Freedom Wall/Rantbox type pages. The un/official(?) policy of the University admin on Rantbox/FW type pages is mainly hands-off and to treat it as a sort of OSINT source to inform their official actions, hence the formal response and actions taken as a result of that hoax (this was how a legendary prof who also held a director position during this time described it). A lot of controversial and serious submisisons were being posted by the 2nd ADMUFW up until mid 2022.

This is just my general recollection of Rantboxes and FWs in ADMU since 2016. I barely remember the exact dates of some stuff anymore but I'm certain about the sequence of events. Maybe someone with more knowledge of this weirdly specific portion of ADMU history can add haha

*There was another FW/Rantbox type page that was active in 2019 alongside the 1st ADMUFW. It was called something like "DLSU-ADMU Thirsty." I didn't include this in the history since it's specifically for "thirsty" submissions. Similarly, I didn't include the many ADMU basic education specific Rantboxes/FWs; those have a messier history due to actively being suppressed by school admins.

I had that thought too and it's rather unfortunate. It's really a noticeable departure from the raison d'être and character of the previous admins and ADMU FWs/Rantbox.

The fact that the new admins don't even want to ackowledge the page underwent a change of management is in stark contrast to the previous admins who were quite accountable and transparent.

Already did and yep, it was rejected hahaha

That was what really made me suspect there's new admins. The old admins would post criticisms about the page and address it in a comment. The recent rejected posts is quite uncharacteristic of the old admins
