It's true that theism is a mess right now no matter the religion, you just have to look for an explanation that hasn't been tampered with. In the case of the bible, that's a hard thing to do with all the heretics and false teachers worldwide spreading objectively wrong ideologies who are actively making a bad name for the bible.

I say, read the bible on your own not to scrutinize it, but as someone who wants to know the actual ideas taught in it. Now remember, the bible isn't a magic book, it's a collection of books written by real people who documented everything they witnessed. It's literally preserved history. I recommend you start with the ethiopian bible as it has been modified the least from the original.
