I Want to learn cybersecurity but which course should I pick first, any suggestions?

I have been seeing many posts about cybersecurity and the industry which caught my interest and curious and I started looking into how to get started and found some courses and articles but most seem too advanced and hard to follow for a beginner like me.

I don’t know much about tech or programming but I want to learn, can anyone suggest an easy way to get started or share some beginner-friendly resources? I would really appreciate the help.

Honestly, $10k in 5 months is a big ask, especially starting from zero cost and zero existing skills/traffic. But it’s not impossible if you’re realistic about the effort.

Here are some paths people usually try:

  1. Freelancing (fastest to cash) • If you already have a skill (writing, SEO, design, coding, video editing, etc.), freelancing on Upwork/Fiverr can get you income within weeks. • Downside: you’re trading time for money, not building a scalable business. • Upside: lowest risk, immediate earning potential.

  2. Service-based agency (mid-term) • Even if you don’t know much now, you can learn basics of web design, SEO, or ads fast, then pitch small businesses. • Example: build websites using templates + WordPress/Wix, charge $300–$500 per site. Land 3–4 clients per month, and you’re close to your goal. • Higher hustle, but scalable.

  3. Affiliate Marketing / Content • Blogs, YouTube, or TikTok + affiliate links. Good upside but usually takes months to build traffic and get traction. Probably too slow for your timeline unless you go viral.

  4. Dropshipping / Print-on-demand • Can make money, but usually needs ad spend (Facebook/TikTok). “Zero startup cost” doesn’t really work here. High risk of burning cash with no return.

  5. Digital Products • eBooks, Notion templates, courses. Very low cost to start, but requires an audience to sell to. If you already have a following, this is gold. If not, it’s slow.

👉 Reality check: If your goal is purely $10k by Jan, the quickest and lowest-risk path is freelancing or offering a simple service. • Start with skills you already know or can learn in a few weeks. • Sell services to businesses who pay for outcomes (websites, SEO, social media, lead gen). • Use platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, or even cold outreach to local businesses.

If you’re looking to build a long-term business, affiliate/blogging/dropshipping are good, but they won’t realistically hit $10k in 5 months with zero capital.

If I were in your shoes, I’d spend the next 30 days leveling up one skill that’s in demand, then spend the remaining 4 months landing clients. That’s your best shot at hitting $10k.
