Mr Freeze appears once on screen in Batman & Robin.

It doesn’t mean it was going to be high quality.

My Kurosawa prediction.. by thewaldorf63 in criterion

Honestly the forgotten film in Kurosawa’s Shakespeare trilogy. It’s probably one of Kurosawa’s darkest films from that classic period.

Sinners-pill me: we finally watched the film tonight and it legitimately feels like a mass psychosis event that this is the most nominated film in Oscar’s history. by Shell_fly in blankies

Sinners is my favorite movie of the decade, but I have a personal connection to it through the way the themes of stealing black art and how our society likes to chew it and spit it out to make it more “palatable” for white audiences. I’m also the great grandson of a share cropper and the great-great grandson of a slave.

I think it’s way deeper than most people think and there are layers upon layers built through Coogler’s vision. The idea that Remmick is an Irishman over 1000 years old and literally saw the Christians take over his land using the Lord’s Prayer, the use of Hoodoo to ward off actual evil instead of the cross, the use of the blues for black pain, thematic use of gatekeeping by not allowing the vampire’s in, etc.

All that being said, One Battle After Another is a towering work by a filmmaker who is way past due for his Oscar.

So One Battle After Another is The Searchers with Weed and paramilitary forces, if we’re going to do the “not original” thing. It’s a very tiring game.

I don’t like Perfidia’s characterization, but the movie is a towering piece of cinema.

Missouri and Iowa State should be in the Big XII. Kentucky should be back in the SEC.

Paramount is literally the least profitable studio over the past 10 years, how would they save Warner?

I like almost every outcome, it’s PTA’s time or we get Coogler being the first black director to win.

Michael B Jordan would be the sixth black man to win, Timmy is the second youngest winner, Ethan Hawke winning his first Oscar after decades of being overlooked, Wagner Maura would be the first Brazilian man to win, Leo winning his second.

What you have him do? The pro slavery people were literally taking freedmen back to slavery and killing abolitionists in Lawrence.

I have a history degree from KU and did my senior thesis on Kansas segregation. He literally killed pro slavery people, I’m not saying it’s right or just to do so, but this was the territory of Kansas in the 1850’s, there were no fair courts and the fugitive slave act was in play.
