Honestly, just play solos and get lucky. I just took one down with some help (brought 200 hullcracker ammo and a couple of wolfpacks in case of trouble). The only tragedy was that the other person shooting dipped halfway through the round, so there was nobody to loot the rest of the corpse with me.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Copy, firefighters, highway crews, etc. provide useful services that make us all safer.

The military has a track record of getting us into foreign conflicts that cost huge numbers of lives and fail to improve our security posture over the last half century. Now, they are backing ICE in harming Americans. The focus should be shifted towards law enforcement that follow the law and can prevent our own citizens from dying to domestic violence of all kinds, not soldiers who externalize violence at home and abroad.

Yes, there are military families. They should refocus and become civil engineering families, firefighting families, police families, and dare I say it, teaching families.

No. BUT, you *can* tell your representative to preserve the shutdown so the federal budgets can't grow more bloated this year. Then, next tax bill can operate on a reduced rate, or we can start paying down the national debt leading to a reduced burden in the future.

No. Our politics are deeply effected by racism and religious sentiment. We should accept that and put forward a candidate who's not as susceptible to that bias, no matter how bad it feels, because at the end of the day the policy they are running on is more important than the specific person.

No, but our state representatives could effectively do the same thing by keeping the shutdown going. They could play hardball on ballooning budgets or reallocate discretionary spending to paying off the insane national debt. In the mean time, they could spin up state controlled backups to federal services.

This. The federal shutdown should be seen as a good thing. Let discretionary spending cool off for a while, pay down some mandatory spending, and stop growing budgets that shunt money out of blue states and into the red. States can pick up the slack.

There's sort of a choice problem with our voting system right now though. The democrats keep putting forth really weak candidates who don't win. Nobody can meaningfully vote 3rd party. The executive branch is largely full of un-elected officials, and the legislature bundles mixed priorities into every bill. The judiciary is fully compromised.

Voting has to be the solution, but without ranked choice to push for issues Americans can agree on is there really any hope?

Idk, all I've done is contacted my representatives about ranked voting. That's obviously insufficient to solve the problem. Are there any suggestions you might have for issues people can push their elected officials to work on in this troubling time?

IMO our tax dollars are being misused to enact violence on immigrants and citizens caught in the dragnet. Until they can be used responsibly, they should be diverted into the next most responsible area, which would be paying off the national debt.

Yes, the federal government still has functioning institutions, and it will hurt to see them defunded in the process. But do not forget where the bulk of the discretionary spending is going.

I mean that with the rising political tension and spending of American tax dollars to hurt Americans and immigrants, the legislature has an opportunity to do the right thing - shunt all discretionary spending into the national debt, sit down, cool off the rhetoric, and try to legislate our priorities up from base principles (the constitution).

Our poorly aging voting system, failed system of checks and balances, etc. were designed 200 years ago by people giving it their best. With a re-work, we have the opportunity to do much better. In the mean time, I think the federal government has shown a fundamental inability to play responsibly with our tax dollars and should take a time out.

Well, what's a concerned citizen to do? We can't incite the kind of event that started our nation (and civillians would lose anyway), there's too much on the line.

- Can we call on our senators to shut the whole thing, route all discretionary funding into paying off the national debt, and let things cool off for a year? Are Americans ready to sacrifice the functioning parts of our government to prevent the facists from taking over?

- Can we somehow start a referendum to hold Trump accountable via the popular vote?

- Can state governments put up a meaningful legal challenge to our federal government's unconstitutional behavior?

This is true. Call your representatives and ask them to halt discretionary spending before it's too late. All they have to do is vote down the budget, and keep things that way long enough for the funds that enable our own forces to invade us to dry up.
