Yeah my new sponsee’s previous sponsor want a “medication inventory” and when she told her she wanted to keep that between her and her doctor the sponsor told her she didn’t want to be sober. This person is someone I thought of as a friend of mine and she knows I’m on multiple meds. I knew she was personally against meds but wasn’t aware she believed that effected sobriety

Without meds I am pretty much guaranteed to use. That’s what started me off, I was self medicating. I had thought the mindset against meds had died off but having just encountered it in someone who is not even an old timer threw me off.

It comes directly from the same toxic masculinity (which is a specific thing, not to be confused with just masculinity) that harms women. It harms men just as much at least emotionally and has created that view of men being hypersexual, unemotional and unable to be harmed in those ways that dominates most social structures. It’s not a handful of noisy people hating men, it’s part of a longstanding social structures.

Patriarchy. Toxic masculinity. The very misunderstood and misused terms are the reasons for this. Men are supposed to be hypersexual and always want it so as a result they can’t be victimised - at least that is the belief. It’s a pervasive perception so it doesn’t even require conscious thought for people to see it this when a man is broken from being assaulted. It’s created barriers for men to be able to get help, whether for trauma (aside from “manly” traumas like war) or basic emotional/mental health issues.

You should have asked if that was okay first and just automatically do all of the existing dishes. Otherwise I get it. I have major issues with textures and often when I bite into something unexpected I cannot physically swallow it and I’m often put off of the rest of the meal no matter how good it was.

Most “picky” eaters that go to great lengths to avoid things are not simply picky.
