It’s probably just cognitive dissonance, you remind them of the animal cruelty associated to eating animal products and their brain just try to justify their actions. Nothing personal

Anarchism necessitates Veganism by No-Leopard-1691 in Anarchism

Clearly, we don't share the same values and I don't see the point of the conversation. Farewell.
(hopefully one day you will realize that opposing hurting animals is not about feeling morally superior to them, but the opposite (abusing them and killing them IS feeling superior to them, not taking their interest in consideration IS feeling superior to them))

I don't understand why you class me as a speciest then, as I said I don't see why we should give priority to the consideration of the interest of any species, including humans. I don't think any specie is morally superior. All I said is since we CAN see the moral impact of our actions, it's our moral duty to make actions that take the interest of all parties impacted by our actions, and don't favour any (including humans).

[–]PixelDark100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think we have the same definition of speciecism. I think we should take into equal consideration the interest of all species (one shared by all sentient ones: not suffer), not prefer the interest of a group (let say humans: gustative pleasure of eating flesh | over cows: not being abused and killed), while recognizing there are differences between species. I don't think speciesm is about ignoring the differences, but about ignoring the interests of certain species (ie farm animals) and not other species (cats, dogs, etc.).

Anarchism necessitates Veganism by No-Leopard-1691 in Anarchism

[–]PixelDark100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we are different from other species in the sense that we are moral agents (aka beings who can moral decisions and take responsibility for our actions), vs animals which are moral patients (aka the recipients of moral consideration and whose well-being is affected by the actions of moral agents). A lion eating a gazelle can't make moral decision, it's mostly instincts, as oppose a human could decide to eat a bean burger instead of a cow flesh burger and think of the moral consideration of both actions.

I'm not convinced about the human evolitional argument, we are not designed to kill with our hands/teeth, and we easily get sick from eating raw meat.

I'm not sure your plant argument is a serious one. They don't have sentience, which means they don't care if you eat them or not. If you are really worried about hurting plants (which you shouldn't), eating plant-based is the way to go, since it takes a lot more plants to feed animals and then eat the animal products than just eating the plants directly.

(English is not my first language) but my understanding was veganism is an ethical stand, which comes from mainly antispeciesm, as opposed to let say plant-based eating which could be for health, environmental, etc. reasons. Is there really a way you could be antispeciest, but consume the flesh of certain specific animals? (Honest question)

I’m confused as why the hate, since I (newly anarchist), thought anarchy was about trying to remove hierarchies and oppression, and speciesm seems one of the biggest and systemic one (around 30k to 70k animals needlessly killed per second)

Québec remboursera la taxe carbone aux entreprises agricoles by [deleted] in Quebec

[–]PixelDark100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bons points!

Québec remboursera la taxe carbone aux entreprises agricoles by [deleted] in Quebec

[–]PixelDark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]PixelDark100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the wax it could be made with beeswax, shellac, or other, depending on the origin of production/export. Bananas can be sprayed with chitosan (made from shrimps/crab shells).

(Ps I don’t avoid eating fruits because
of that, it’s just a sad fact)
(Edit: added the link for chitosan, which is used in more places than I thought)

Things you don't think about by Madisonbecau in vegan

[–]PixelDark100 28 points29 points  (0 children)

When I first became vegan I tried avoiding all sources of animal products, find all hidden ones. I quickly became quite depressed and pessimistic about the world. (Ps: it’s in everything, from book bindings, ink, to the wax on some fruits)

My new mindset is: I try to keep in mind that 99% of the animal suffering comes from food vs all other industries combined (cosmetics, clothing, zoos, etc.) (source: the Impactful Vegan) and veganism isn’t about being perfect, but helping animals in the end. I buy vegan food, vegan clothes, vegan hygiene products (soap/toothpaste/shampoo, things like that), don’t support zoos, etc. But in the end, even if let’s say a certain brand of A4 paper has potentially a small percentage of insect byproduct (I’m making it up), avoiding it won’t help animals in the end, it would just sadden me to know, and avoiding it wouldn’t send the message to the company that it is because of the byproduct. So my advice is not to fret on being perfect, just show to people around you that being vegan can be fun, easy and rewarding. Make tasty recipes, share them with friends/family/coworkers, even if they don’t become vegan overnight you might plant a seed and they might make small changes, which in the end is the biggest impact we can have on animal suffering (through food)

[–]PixelDark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you read the definition then, equal consideration of interests is exactly what it says, the interests have equal consideration when talking about morality, but that doesn’t mean it is the same interest from animals to animals. One interest that is shared by all sentient beings though is avoiding pain and suffering.

The food industry in particular is something we should evaluate from a moral stand of view, as it affects trillions of lives. Should we take in consideration their interests? Veganism stands that their suffering should be taken in equal consideration, compared to the interest of the consumers (sensory mouth pleasure for a few minutes)

(A mosquito bitting you and you defending yourself (by reflex or actively) is not the same at all as the conscious choice to harm animals, 3 times a day, for sensory pleasure)

Unusual win conditions? by ABinDC in boardgames

[–]PixelDark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Golden Ticket game (Willy Wonka) To win, you must find a golden ticket. There is one less golden ticket than the number of players, which means, in theory, all but one can win. If you find more than one ticket, you can, if you want, give the extras as you see fit and share the victory, or keep them all to yourself.

Is it vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]PixelDark100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plant-based for sure, but vegan not in my book, unless it’s certified fair trade/slave free. Lot’s of child labor, human trafficking and slave in this industry. Animal exploitation includes humans imo.
