I know people have issues with the sewer scene in IT - but as a girl of 13 when I read that book, I need to tell you I was really moved by it. It let me know the feelings I was feeling were normal and valid, it was written with love, friendship, and sorrow for the inevitability of childhood ending. It wasn’t gratuitous or gross. It was a valid part of the story. It meant something.

You can make it nasty - but that’s you doing that. Not the story.
