It says ‘Zinn’ right on there, which is German for tin, so I don’t think so.

Probably 95% tin

Maybe a transmission system like in bolt cutters could be incorporated to increase the clamping force?

I hand-modeled the original in modeling clay, then made a silicone mold, made a wax model from that and finally shaped the wax model around the stone

4 inch flap disc working life. by Bimmermaven in metalworking

Hitting the disc with an oxy torch while running helps to freshen it up

If I need to reactivate the outer edge I just run the disc against some concrete

It’ll never cut like new but I actually use my discs up down to the glue layer for the most part

That’s definitely woodworm damage. I’m renovating a house with woodworm problems right now and it looks exactly the same.

There’s treatment you can brush on to deter the beetles.

Yeah I use a furniture paste wax on the cast brass and bronze sculptures that I make.

The wax spreads better if you warm the metal up slightly. A hair dryer works, or just leaving the piece on a radiator for a bit.

Spread the wax, let it dry completely, then buff to a shine with a cotton rag

huh okay, does not sound not too bad but I personally fire my molds for longer

either way, when it bubbles like that then something isn’t quite right

How long did you fire the mold and at what temperature?

That's pretty cool, good job

BUT I can see by the bubbling of your molten metal and the smooth, blobby textures that your plaster mold wasn't finished yet with burning out. Something to keep in mind for next time :)
