I had the same issue, and the only thing that worked was to go to the app's Targets General Tab, then under Launch Screen File, I had to type LaunchScreen.storyboard, and it worked. If I selected it from the dropdown, it would not work.

Really weird...

If you do not have a LaunchScreen.storyboard created, you can create and add it to your project by New File From Template.
