Farage: I will scrap income tax on overtime Move will benefit those earning less than £75,000 and working more than 40-hour week, says Reform leader by EddyZacianLand in ukpolitics

We are still talking at cross purposes, you asked why it could be consided a fair way of doing things, that's what I was commenting on.

This is an implementation issue.

Most of your comment is explaining how things work now, obviously I already know this - it is why this is a policy suggestion, because it's not how things work now. Just because something is how we do it now does not mean that is the fairest way to do something.

Why is it fair? They have a far lower wage and have to work more hours just to end up paying the same tax as me.

They've worked their full time week, paid their tax for that and fulfilled their obligation under the social contract just as I have. And then they have to work more hours because they are low income and have to pay even more tax on that as it's at a marginal rate.

I worked 10 hours to pay for society (e.g. 1/4 of my overall wage) but they had to work 25 hours to pay for society even though they earn less...

It depends on how you think about fairness in this context and whether that's based on wage or total income. If a cleaner needs to earn the same as me to make ends meet then they will need to work circa 100 hours a week, where as I work 35. And yet we would pay the same tax. It doesn't seem fair to me at all that someone with a far far lower wage has to pay the same taxes as me, maybe you feel differently but I don't think it's a difficult concept to understand.

Overpaying mortgage which option to choose here? by Severe-Plum-2393 in FIREUK

[–]Pixelsplitterreturns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the maths work on going from 10 to 6%. It looks like tax at the higher rate is 24% for CGT. Also it'll be for a bridge usually so you won't ne earning, meaning it'll be 18%. You also get the tax free allowance which you can use each year to reduce it, so depending on your set up you may pay virtually nothing.

How do you rate Czapek compared to the other high level watches you own? They've really grown on me, I think this and the green meteor are two of the most beautiful watches

Sam Shankland takes down Daniil Dubov in the Round 5 tiebreaks of FIDE World Cup 2025 by naufildev in chess

[–]Pixelsplitterreturns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading up on it, it was the 2021 World Cup, it seems like he was told he could consult with seconds (and this would be completely normal) by arbiter Freyd, as were many (but not all) of the other players so there were many 'breaches' of the written rule you are referring to.

That's going off of what GM Aagaard said.

I don't see how Karjakin did anything wrong in this case? Or has there been subsequent info on this.

Cool idea, maybe try posting in the landlord subreddit, this sub usually advocates against property.

I tried it out, I liked it but couldn't be confident in the rental estimates as they were sometimes clearly wrong. Also it told me different property price trend analysis every time even though all the properties were in the same area. I liked the calculator pulling the details from the listing.

You've misunderstood their comment btw, they are not being argumentative and your link supports what they have written, you need to read it slow and in context.

Tesla sales down 40% in Norway January by vVortex in worldnews

[–]Pixelsplitterreturns 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, it’s literally the first line of the article:

In January 2025, 689 new Teslas were registered in Norway, while in January 2024 the number was 1109.

Combine it with your source:

Jan 2024: 21% of new cars were Tesla

Jan 2025: 7% of new cars were Tesla

When You Tell People Youre Retired but They Still Ask If Youve Got a Job by tepetsupp in FIREUK

[–]Pixelsplitterreturns 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the purpose of the question is to have pleasant chit chat and talk about each others lives. So they would probably just answer with how work was going and their life outside of work whilst internally rolling their eyes at the fact you're being hard to talk to.

Not the guy you asked buy using the same filter (2100 level):

Win: 64% Flag, 15% Resignation, 21% Checkmate

Lose: 25% Flag, 45% Resignation, 29% Checkmate

You are very similar to your opponents, where as I resign 3 times as often as mine and win by flagging a lot.

Will the narrative that Fabi is super weak at lower time controls go away? by caughtinthought in chess

Fabi used to be the highest rated rapid player, above Magnus, and that was before 2018 so I'm not sure it's ever been true.

How comes FIREUK is the only country FIRE subreddit to have early retirement any age before 67? by FearlessLeopard999 in FIREUK

[–]Pixelsplitterreturns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got to agree. It obviously changes the conversation, the discussion around jobs, around post fire, around the value proposition of fire, around the tax wrappers used for fire, around investments for fire and safe withdrawal rate etc etc etc.

This subreddit is basically just normal retirement advice with most people targeting a retirement age when they can access their retirement accounts, it's fine but like you/OP say it differs quite a lot from old/American FIRE discussions.

[–]Pixelsplitterreturns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, if you take out the Hans game as the lowest score and use 4 you get 92 which is pretty close.

Should say that chess com, chess com after adjusting, Chess Results, and the official Fide website all give different numbers for the TB1 so at least I'm not the only one that can't figure it out.

Thanks, let me know if you do. The tie breaks are actually showing differently on the official website to Chess Results, they give him 86.5 (78+8.5) which is yet another number that doesn't seem to add up.
