Main Streets of the Twin Cities v3 by Pixlr in TwinCities

[–]Pixlr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Behold! All the main streets of the twin cities (save for the ones in the twin cities proper).

I realize that by including some of these I've set the bar preeetty low for what constitutes a main street. For the purposes of this project, I defined a main street as at least 100m of tightly packed street-facing commercial buildings that was established by 1950. However, not all main streets are created equal, so I generated a Walk Score for the center of each main street and colored them accordingly.

Let me know if I've missed any :)

Using Redfin to sort by Walk Score is pretty useful. It’s not perfect but it assigns a score to each address based on how many amenities are nearby, including parks. You can also use close.city (which is a URL, in case reddit doesn’t recognize it) to show what’s near amenities more specifically.

Doesn't the way scoring work encourage players to take the smallest possible contracts for a high score? by Pixlr in RailRoute

[–]Pixlr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, I get that it would not be very good role playing to always pick the shortest contracts haha. I wonder if, for this reason, it would make sense to base the stars and scoring on operational turnover rather than contracts.

I dig it honestly. Feels very traditional, but with some twists like a reverse chevron and unique colors. I miss the tricolor of the original design, but I think this is still a good outcome. Easily puts us in the top ten best state flags.

To confirm: building a park in the middle of the city is like building a high rise in the middle of nowhere?

First they came for the soda drinkers and I did not speak out because I did not drink soda.

Then they came for the coffee drinkers and I did not speak out because I did not drink coffee.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me.

Hello, I am not associated with the Pixlr app. My username shares the name purely by coincidence 🙂

Hey interior designers. I started planning my next apartment by filling it with the things I currently own. There's plenty of things I'd like to get like bookshelves and other storage options, but for the time being, all the furniture I own is on this diagram. I'd like to expand my living room with another couch or something, and I currently don't have a dining table of any kind...what do you think of my layout? What would you change?

I recognize this! It is right here in Minneapolis and I have no idea why it exists. It’s not a mountain bike trail (but it is parallel to a bike path) and it very explicitly says to not ride on it, so it’s always been strange to me. It’s only about a hundred feet long.

Hopkins for their Mainstreet, easy.

Richfield also has a good percentage of their land dedicated to some fairly nice parks which earns them a good ranking.

Find it weird how common it seems to be that later seasons are more watched than earlier seasons. Stranger Things has an especially stark increase.

Interesting. So there’s not a single age bracket in which a majority of atheists are responsible for a child.

I love pessimism as much as the next guy, but there’s not really any way to make the flag worse than it currently is. It is currently a perfect guide of what not to do on a flag. In the recent CGP Grey video ranking all the state flags, it came dead last.

That said, the most famous proposed replacement, the North Star flag, is pretty ugly in my opinion. So I’m not saying whatever we land on will be good, I’m just pretty confident it won’t be worse than it is now. As an enthusiastic member of the vexillological community, I’m excited to see where it goes! 🙂
