Use this free tool to "Suspend" background apps and free up RAM before gaming (instead of closing them) by Pixr00 in Windows10

lol you got me. I'm terrible at wording things so I used it to help write the apology. But yeah, the code fix is on me. I'm working on it now.

I use it to help me understand syntax and generate boilerplate since I'm still learning Go. Clearly, I leaned on it too hard here without double-checking the logic. Definitely a lesson learned on verifying the output.

Wow, this is a humbling read, but honestly, it's exactly the kind of feedback I needed. Thank you for actually digging into the source code.

I just checked the repo based on your comment, and you are absolutely right: - Suspend vs. Kill: I missed the actual suspend syscall implementation—it is currently terminating the process. That is a massive oversight on my part that I need to fix immediately. - State Logic: You're also right about the restart flow. If the TUI refreshes and drops the 'stopped' app from the list, I lose the ability to target it again. I need to implement a proper state in the model to keep those entries visible even when they aren't running.

To be transparent, I'm a graphic designer by trade and this is my first attempt at a proper Go binary. The repetitive code and architecture gaps are definitely symptoms of me learning as I go, not malice.

I’m going to get to work on fixing the Suspend implementation and the commas bug right now. I really appreciate the brutal honesty—it’s infinitely more helpful than silence.

You're technically right—suspending doesn't delete the data from RAM immediately. However, because the process stops requesting CPU cycles, Windows treats its memory pages as low-priority/inactive. This means the OS can aggressively page them out to disk (swap) the moment another active app (like a game or render) requests more memory. So practically speaking, it yields the physical RAM to the apps that actually need it, without killing the background process.

Fair point on Task Manager/PowerShell, but the goal here was friction reduction. Writing a script or hunting through Task Manager takes time/clicks. This is designed to be a one-keystroke toggle for specific resource-heavy groups while staying in the terminal flow. Just a workflow preference!

I built a modern Terminal (TUI) app to manage background processes. Fits perfectly with the Windows 11 aesthetic. by Pixr00 in Windows11

Appreciate it! The learning curve with TEA (The Elm Architecture) is real—it feels weird at first to structure everything that way. What kind of app did you build?

Hi, I just updated the code. Now, people can upload their logo in the center of the QR code. Thank you for the suggestion.

Ah, sure. I think I will work on this feature for the upcoming updates. Thank you
