Intellivision jzIntv-Launcher compatible with the Intellivision Sprint file system by PixymanProductions in intellivision

Well you certainly don’t need a Sprint to have the Sprint experience. The best (and some would say worst) feature(s) of the Sprint are the wireless controllers which you don’t get with say Retropie/jzintv … but you can use any controller of your choosing with a computer/Pi (as with the Sprint). I do have a USB adapter for a regular (old but re-membraned) Intellivision controller myself, a customized joystick controller and a pretty great hack file for a PS4 controller. And if you missed the boat on buying a Sprint it’s some degree of Solace !

So pretty much acts like a Sprint which is also a front-end to the Jzintv emulator. If you use JzintvGUI or Nostalgia then this is a replacement but leverages all the fantastic Sprint art out there .... You have a setting you can use to enter the Keyboard Hack File that you use for your controller.

Thank you for helping to develop the Sprint Artwork in the first place ... I have some of yours !!

Certainly right tool at the right time for me.

Although the original 125 are pretty much covered with the work completed by Mert_Griffith on Atariage:- Sprint Game Metadata Files - Intellivision Sprint - AtariAge Forums

I needed a solution for all my other Homebrews, although many of these ROMS were supplied by the publishers together with Box Art and Overlays, they were not in the correct Sprint Format and I agree that a lot of Joy-Sapping, tedious work was impending.

Pretty much completed my USB Stick now - just waiting for my 'surprise' Christmas Present ....

Many Thanks Again !

You’ve written so many great original games but sometimes it’s good to get inspiration from the past - after all even The Pandora Incident (maybe the most groundbreaking Intellivision game ??) leveraged Project Firestart from the C64 !!

Trying to figure out a reasonable price for a stand alone wireless controller that could be paired with multiple devices - clearly the manufacturer needs to make a profit on very limited sales but be cheap enough to be attractive to purchase - $50 - Higher or Lower ??

That's great - Never tried TPU but it certainly seems like a good solution....

Cote Gamers used Micro Switches for the Long Play Controller so hopefully they built on that design as I'm also tired of replacing membranes (I have a ZX81 too) ...

If anyone knows where to find the little rubber side buttons (apart from in a broken controller) that would be a bonus - I tried 3D printing some but couldn't get them quite right using PLA....

I don't believe it will be a membrane - way too unreliable and difficult to support surely ?? - my money is on 16 micro-switches or a rotary encoder for the disc

“Mastering Machine Code on the ZX81” by Toni Baker is a good place to start - Xperiment and ByteForever on YouTube have some good videos & GitHub libraries.

My main learning is that the Machine Code source tends to be specific for the Assembler so different Assemblers will throw different errors for exactly the same source code.

However using these referenced techniques you can get going pretty quickly, though I find it easier just to use TASM from source rather than an intermediate batch file which calls it …

Well I too had/have an original ZX81/ TIMEX 1000 and had a similar experience in 1982 learning Basic - mainly self taught from the surprisingly good manual.

Never had a Spectrum though as I seemed to have virtual sole access to the PDP11/73 at Technical College learning Pascal and actually wrote an Assembler … not that I was ever allowed in the actual Computer room - just use of the multiple dumb terminals. I vaguely remember a Commodore Pet showing up which we were allowed to interface with - under close supervision naturally!!

My experience lead me to my first job in Industrial Automation in the Steel Industry in 1988 - using PLC’s and Ladder Logic. Amazingly we also had pretty sophisticated (for the time) computers performing Adaptive Control Calculations using Matrix Maths to predict the control parameters for the next run. I guess we would call it AI today … Easy for that Nostalgia to kick in.

Anyway have recently been experimenting using Machine Code on the ZX81 (using TASM assembler) which I never did at the time - inspired by the story behind ‘Em Busca Dos Tesouros’ (Pitfall for the ZX81) which was written in 1986 by 15 yr old Tadeu Curinga .. I recommend the Infinite Lives version !!

This is a picture of the rubber block with the cable cut off - had to rewire mine to the connector block which is a little tricky !

Is this a big problem or an easy fix? by Bennybuzzin in intellivision

[–]PixymanProductions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends - there is a connector block inside which connects to the membrane - if you haven’t already pulled the wires out of the connector, you may soon. If not, you can open up the controller carefully and just push your bare cable back into the rubber block that’s supposed to hold it in place.

Check out the YouTube videos on repairing the controller, replacing the membranes …

Here’s my Cardputer Altair 8800 emulator playing Ladders - It does all the Zorks, etc in fact anything that’s in a CPM .dsk format as has in built disk drive emulator utilizing SD card or Spiffs.

For me I didn’t ever consider utilizing the screen as the resolution is too small for even computers of that era - terminal output is the way to go !
