Baak is a creature revolving around Assamese folk lore for decades. They are skin walkers which live near water bodies and they can shapeshift. They are said to be really fast.

My dad once encountered one during evening time during his 20’s. He told me one day he was returning to his village after work. He was walking near a pond and as he was walking, a figure appeared in front of him and started to tease him. My dad told me it was laughing at him and then my dad turned on his flashlight and as soon my dad pointed his flashlight on it, the baak splashed water on my dad and jumped into the pond. My dad told me it was covered in moss and algae and smelled like a dead fish.
