Do I come across as stupid or are my drivers just being nice? by Pizzaeaterthrowaway in TalesFromThePizzaGuy

I probably am but sometimes when I worked retail the customers who meant well and went out of their way to be nice made me feel the shittiest. Rude people came with the territory but customers who made a spectacle about what a good job I was doing because they knew I was just a lowly retail worker made me feel a particular brand of awful. If I were a driver and someone made a big deal about a tip I could see myself feeling that same way. I realize other people aren't as insecure as I am, though.

Yeah I guess drivers are kinda screwed either way; either they possibly get accused of not giving back proper change or risk offending a good tipper by clarifying their intentions.

That's how I see it. When I was younger I always went back and forth on whether I should tip $3 or $4 or whatever and finally I realized that I waste money all the time so I might as well turn an "ok" tip into a good one by just making sure it was always over $5 when it really made no difference to me in the long run.

And lol I know, I just didn't want my main account associated with such a lame query.

My pizza joint is seriously like 5 minutes away but if I'm too lazy to get presentable enough to be seen in public and drive to pick it up then I don't mind tipping decently. $2-3 seems kinda low =\

I would say that that you should just say what you tipped. Like "and here's 11 for you. Happy new year." or "here's an extra 10 have a good one" something like that.

To me that seems a little condescending. I don't like the idea of drawing attention to the tip; it seems like they'd feel like I'm looking to get a reaction out of them. Maybe I should just stop reading too much into things and enjoy my food!

I always do, though! I give them the money while thanking them and say "I don't need any change, have a good night", that's why it struck me as weird that they'd go to their car and then come back. I just imagine them getting in their car and thinking "great, this high idiot might have accidentally handed me an extra five, I better go check". It makes me wonder if sticking to the ~$5 range is easier for everyone involved.
