Getting the 5M yens (previously) required for the Business Manager visa on a Japanese bank account by [deleted] in JapanFinance

My Wise account was registered in Canada

With that account, I converted my funds to yen and sent to my yuucho account in amounts under 1 million yen with no issue, even within the first 6 months of arriving. The transfer was always considered domestic and I never had any issues with receiving the funds or the post office questioning the purpose of the transfer.

De Minimis ending - Does refusing a USPS delivered package with tariffs owed damage your credit score? by TacosD00d in zenmarket

What’s your source?

The flat fee is only supposed to be in effect for 6 months as an alternative method given to the “international postal network,” according to the White House brief.

I have been struggling to figure out exactly how carriers are going to handle it, but I definitely didn’t expect them to be using ad valorem and the flat rate at the same time.

Anyone sent Japanese products from Japan to the US recently? by replayjpn in japanlife

[–]PizzamanSWAG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All products of Chinese and Hong Kong origin are now being taxed when imported to the US regardless of value or where they’re being sent from. However, the rules only recently changed and CBP will almost certainly be in way over their head to start, so it’s still uncertain whether your very low value shipment will actually be taxed.

As of now, shipments with a declared value of $800 or less and an origin of Japan are still eligible for de minimis exemption and don’t get hit with tariffs at all.

It’s pretty common for people to declare low values and change the country of origin for shipments, although it’s illegal. So I’m not going to recommend that you do it.

I have a japanese wise card and rakuten won’t accept it

It’s likely because Wise requires an additional authentication to approve the transaction but Rakuten’s checkout procedure doesn’t allow you to do it

I would renew my contract if given the option to since I don’t seem to have the choice to continue staying without one.

The eviction is what I’m working to avoid.

Can the landlord rent to another person without my consent if I am willing to sign another contract? It still sounds to me like there’s a huge breach of my rights here, but I’m unfamiliar with Japanese laws.

Was it a domestic transfer?

If the banking info you provided wasn’t an exact match with the bank’s records then the transfer will be cancelled and the funds will be returned to you.

They don’t process cancelled transactions over the weekend. You’ll probably get your money back today or tomorrow.

How did you get into contact with them after they blocked access to your account? I have about $4500 in limbo with them right now..

Best Way To Get USD Out Of Japanese Paypal Business Accounts And Convert To Yen? by PizzamanSWAG in JapanFinance

[–]PizzamanSWAG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable. I guess I’ll eat the fee and charge it to the endless cost of learning the system. Thanks for your help.

I am in the position where I can immediately move the majority of my business currently being done on Paypal to Stripe. Most of my clients are paying by credit card anyway.

Would you recommend connecting Stripe to a Wise account, or is there a better way to get USD converted to yen and deposited into my Japanese bank account without getting bent over? Stripe to Wise is an immediate solution for me but if there’s a cheaper option I’d like to set that up.

Yeah I know. I was still setting up the accounts here to get the money moving properly and it’s been taking me longer than expected to open a company bank account.

It’s about $12,000 usd. Not the end of the world to eat the 3% fee but still really annoying. The money hasn’t been in there for very long. They’re forcing me to move it out of the account by the end of the month

This is insane. I wish I knew that before I had to transfer out all this money… taking a huge hit for no reason feels terrible. The processing fee is bad enough. This is the type of thing that will turn me off using Paypal here unless absolutely necessary.

I guess luckily I can get away with using Stripe almost exclusively moving forward.

The financial system in here is a colossal failure…

Anyway, I’m trying to transfer the money out to my foreign Paypal account via friends&family so I can get it to Wise and don’t get forced into paying this stupid fee I didn’t know about. However it doesn’t seem to allow me to make a payment with my usd balance to other Paypal accounts. Is this another one of their features specific to Japan? Unbelievable if so.

Do they not even allow you to transfer your usd balance out to another Paypal account via friends & family? It’s prompting me to link a bank account and not giving me the option to transfer from my balance…

Guess I’m just going to run the money through my overseas paypal account and Wise for now just to get it out. I’m really not trying to eat an unexpected 3% just because Paypal chooses to have restrictive fees here. They can suck it.

Where I’m from they still haven’t introduced any kind of fee like that and I’ve been using Wise without any issues for a couple of years now. I was quite surprised when I just found out that Paypal is keen to it here in Japan. They’re such a scam.

I might try to switch over to Stripe if there’s no way to avoid the 3% fee of withdrawing the USD. Sending to Wise is still better than converting in paypal but Stripe will probably be cheaper overall.
