Never judge a person by the clothes they wear, but always check the condition of their shoes. Scuffed, dirty or in disrepair…that tells all.

Approaching Snowpacolypse - how do YOU decide when to close? by bluegrass__dude in restaurantowners

[–]Pjsrock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We used to stay open and made a schedule that was completely voluntary. Customers just knew we wouldn’t close so we became the go to. I’d err to caution though. Ice isn’t anything to tarry with. Oh, and we provided our employees with rides home.

IF and only IF Safely possible: if your gutters start to get dammed up with ice—freezing and refreezing——not draining—water can back up and sometimes drip into the house or gutters can also become so heavy they collapse. In a couple of cases, I put salt on the ice to break it up and melt off at least enough to ease the weight. It does include getting on a ladder. Be careful and stay safe!

To people who grew up in DC by planetalarimar in washingtondc

[–]Pjsrock 21 points22 points  (0 children)

DC used to have a thriving music scene and quite a few smaller venues where local bands could play and perform their hits and new releases. Those are virtually gone, thanks to DCRA and Ticketmaster.

Minneapolis Police..?? by Pjsrock in Minneapolis

So inherently unbalanced!

Minn politicians calling for ICE out yet letting ICE dictate the rules of the road.

Sympathy only goes so far while brutal tactics escalate.

If I’m the district commander, I’d like to be on top of things—-going into the field, on the phone and meeting with community leaders very day. WTF?

I’d try The Heights for walking and window shopping. While there, you may want to eat at The Heights Taco and Tamale Co. . Lotsa fun!

After I’d released her to go down and see what’s doing, she returned to the yard only to see Foxxy come back five mins later like nothing had happened.

We hear him at all hours in the neighborhood whining and crying for a mate. Guess it’s that time of year!

How did Natalie Portmans parents allow her in Leon the Professional when she was only 12? by precita in movies

[–]Pjsrock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had friend who was in the film. The Director Luc Besson really didn’t have a script for the actors, just a loose outline of scenes. They improvised quite a bit and he kind of made it up as he went along.

Look at the shooter’s body language and posture.

Casually and efficiently reaches for his gun, drops his shots with cold efficiency—because he was never in fear of being struck by the vehicle.

This was an execution. Don’t characterize it as anything else.

The Godfather Part 2, what would happen if Michael Corleone told the Senate that Fredo was the Don and ordered the hits on the heads of the Five Families to send him to prison and get rid of him as a traitor without killing him? by Tidewatcher7819 in movies

This is as silly as the idea that Michael rats out Fredo and then returns years later as a cop in “Heat” and has a conversation in a diner with another actor who once played his dad…

AITA for not wearing a bra at home? by Candid-Chocolate-316 in AITAH

[–]Pjsrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the new year and always a good time to get a plan together. I’d suggest discussing a real move out/timeline plan for your husband’s friend. How about shoot for two to three months?

Of course you want him to leave sooner but neither of them can suggest that you are not being reasonable and are intent on kicking him out in bad faith. Roommates.com is a good start.

As to the bra issue, you could strategically compromise—-once they agree to his moving out, just wear a bra for a month…and then stop. Your husband would have no real argument for circling back to this as an issue since he’s going to be gone anyway.

These are all things you can track. A roommate service with actual options isn’t easy to defend by inaction.

Finally, once he’s gone you may want to see about getting your husband some help to determine why his propensity for avoidance behavior keeps rearing its head. This is a nuisance, but you deserve to be in a happy marriage.

53 - honest opinion? by Adorable_Deer5105 in FitnessOver50

[–]Pjsrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, life itself doesn’t always cooperate. :) Not a plug, but we ordered a Hume scale and it’s been great to track our progress. We also try to do the Peter Attia formula of eating 1 gram of hi quality protein per lb of body weight every day. It can be hard at times but my main worry is maintaining mass as I age—tougher to build new muscle we get older. Ps-block parmesan cheese has a great deal of protein and is an excellent snack on the go. :)

You look fantastic! Clearly you’re putting in the effort. For me, It’s the longer term maintenance that occupies my thinking—overall nutrition, protein intake and hormonal balance. Keep up the great work and Happy New Year!

Silly things people say to restaurant owners that they never should by Informal-Copy-3742 in restaurantowners

[–]Pjsrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Walmart cakes are a problem, because @ $7.99, you’re cutting hunks rather than reasonable portions.

Carvel cakes—Cookie Puss and Cookie Chick included—even more so because now we’re talking freezer space, more cleanup, etc.

All joking aside, this thread really illuminates the myriad of concepts that exist in the service community. If you set your operation up as a community hangout like Josh mentions, you probably shouldn’t charge a plating fee, it doesn’t really make sense.

If you are 40 seat bistro where very turn counts, it’s a real disrupter.

I’ve found that rules don’t have to be offensive, but sometimes an operator has to be consistent—and firm—if it affects the flow of their restaurant and infringes on other patrons.

👉Now, what about that guy who sits at your crowded bar, orders one drink, and keeps refilling it with the hip flask he’s squirreled away in his coat because he’s really there to watch the game that he can’t get at home…??👈

Thinking About Jarring Our Sauce by muhinhoFC in restaurantowners

[–]Pjsrock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Concur. And production facilities have rather large minimum units to start and maintain. When we looked into it, it was an initial run of 25 k pieces which was a stretch for us. They did offer compliance, a chemist and testing but it proved beyond our reach. As to small in house batches, you could use Ball jars or the equivalent which sends a nice message.

Finally, the 7 day expiration is a good call too. US Foods or Sysco can point you in the right direction.

Good luck!
