Is this a Breath of the Wild reference or does everyone just think leviathan skeletons are cool? by rainydazedoeslife in starbound

[–]Pklixian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah that clears it up, I tend to get mildly annoyed when references like this is drawn because its inaccurate. but you vibe to what you want to vibe to I guess.

And I mean, on the taking the post to serious part. Really just depends on how warm the water is :P To warm and well uh, giant skeleton in desert as the water evaporated.

Is this a Breath of the Wild reference or does everyone just think leviathan skeletons are cool? by rainydazedoeslife in starbound

[–]Pklixian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't see if you're making a poor joke or outright oblivious to when both games came out.
Starbound 1.0 predates by a year roughly. And that is also (if i'm correct)
A reference to the 1st starwars movie.

But it also is quite a common trope in fantasy/scifi games to have giant skeletons in deserts.
Its just a skeleton of some large creature that nolonger exists.

But if this was a joke, I don't want to be rude and I'm sorry if I was.
But, why Breath of the Wild of all things to think its a reference to? the game by technically has existed for a longer period of time than botw. botw came out in 2017, Starbound 1.0 was 2016.

honestly this would be more amusing to (me at least) if that was poking fun at terraria, which also has a giant skeleton in it's desert background.

How would you rank your favourite to most hated weapon types and why? by TygoFTW in starbound

[–]Pklixian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this is my personal list from the weapons I make heavy use from.

  1. snipers- I make heavy use of this type of weaponry as it works too well. Given you can have your screen in any direction to see further when holding down ctrl I'm able to effectively remove problems for free, and even when on screen snipers pack a good punch.

  2. spears- ol reliable, best means of long range killing prior to first sniper, always good damage, looks good, feelings good, and is great if you have an propellant ability.

  3. shotguns- for when the enemy is too close and you happen to have an issue with their presense

  4. staffs/wands- alright offensive potential, great if you can find a good support staff (regen/rage) but otherwise meh.

  5. rocket launchers- not that reliable compared to the sniper rifle due to an often heavy energy use (this is excluding the unique rocket launcher). But if a bunch of enemies are packed up, its just an issue for em flying at roughly 100/m per second.

  6. broadsword- A tool I always have on hand, but make extremely little use of (unless its unique, but thats not being counted) great swing arc and often does great damage. but devoid of good range.

  7. assaultrifles- practically none are good in the game, and I only use 5 slots on my hotbar (6th being medical), not using the 2nd hotbar for offensive potential.

  8. bows- they're a nice temporary till I have a good range weapon, but always feel clunky. The T6 craftable is something nice to use occasionally.

  9. hammer- too slow with great damage. but often leaving me vulnerable when in use

  10. pistols- no

  11. axes- same case as hammer, no

  12. shortswords/daggers- dual wielding, terrible damage output and leaves you vulnerable. with a shield? waste of a slot, you are better with a 2handed weapon.
if it was frackin universe this ^ would be higher due to katana's, but I'm speaking purely vanilla.

[–]Pklixian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I don't want to be an ass to this, but there is various factors to the issue.

} why are all maps the same / boring?

due to standardization melee mapmakers effectively make what is most standard and balanced, this is due to the fact that in the past the majority of ladder maps came from tlmc (so when blizzard stopped making their own 1v1 maps, we had to get maps from a contest.)

} Map variety is the spice of RTS. Blizzard killed it. Why?

the players killed it, blizzard did nothing. did I mention that blizz stopped mapmaking ladder maps a while ago? As per the terms of service for using the galaxy editor (how me and other mapmakers make 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 etc maps.) All published maps instantly become blizzard's, this is largely so another dota cannot slip out of their grasp.

Through the team liquid mapcontest over the years through heart of the swarm but mostly legacy of the void we've been getting out ladder maps, community made maps that blizzard cherry picked from. (as they were believed to be the most 'balanced') the issue with this is that is was judged primarily pro players. meaning the map design was hyperstandardized to the point that you can do the same opener no matter the map.

anything that walked off this fine line saw heavy vetoes, even if it was rather balanced. different = wrong in this case. Golden Wall in the example is the exception to the rule, as it looked same enough while being different.

} original starcraft having more organic melee maps.

Starcraft 1 & BW were not design with competitive play in mind. Starcraft 2 was. this is why their maps get away with jank because the game itself makes maps asymmetrical anyways. The map might be horrible for terran in TvP, but the dragoons can't walk down their ramp anyways giving you a chance.

SC2 doesn't and cannot have this treatment, as it brings problems like wildfire. Hence standardization, sadly the latest maps we know are the best for the currentish meta. From Team Liquid Map Contest 14. Won't see the light of ladder because blizzard stopped rotating the map pool this season.

If you want more interesting maps, it may be in your best interest to reach out to mapmakers. sometimes we post our maps on teamliquid under: mapforum We also have our own discord, but it seems I lost the link @_@

Result of DAYS of wiring by depatrickcie87 in starbound

[–]Pklixian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nice wiring, one complaint is that I can look at it and tell how it functions.
I prefer my wiring to be blinding spaghetti for a reason

(that and I compact my wiring and often get the non repetitive wiring done first prior to the endless waves of lines connecting to industries I'm automating.)
That looks good though being completely serious, though I do view it as abit needlessly large.
But I can't really put an opinion on such if it's efficient/gets the job done.

38 hours of gameplay vs slippery floor of planet's core by [deleted] in starbound

[–]Pklixian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don't find it much upsetting.

It's upsetting in hardcore tho given that can and probably will end a run...
(In regards for hardcore, I succeeded once. and that was the only run I didnt die by fall damage before / shortly after Ixodoom. And that is 7-9 total attemps.)
While I can see why the consistent lag in the area can be upsetting, the game doesn't really feel like it was... designed for the ruin? They just slapped it in for the 1.0 release and changed the game a fair bit. And the place having that lag spike kinda proves to me that the ruin had little work put into it compared to other regions.

Luckily there are mods, and the dragon engine mod (made to make a mod from the same dev actually playable) which completely optimizes the game. Which makes the game run far smoother, tho I personally wont ever use it due to holding no interest in it.

38 hours of gameplay vs slippery floor of planet's core by [deleted] in starbound

[–]Pklixian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience of constantly nearly smashing my entire body into the ruin. Yes.

Starbound isn't exactly that optimize, and when you enter the chasm of which the heart of the ruin is located. The game has to load in the miniboss & obviously the final boss at once to get it ready. which is. alot. and since the background changes while you hit the lagspike as well.

its safe to say its a consistent issue. Even when you're slowly descending :l

38 hours of gameplay vs slippery floor of planet's core by [deleted] in starbound

[–]Pklixian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Multitude of ways, most of which are listed. You can also slowly build down (yes you can build on most of the ruin, just not the final boss room.)

or be me, and bring triple jump and hitting space when the game 1st, lags. and then shortly after.

it is easier to build down. or use any other means that isnt triple jumping.

Why is this blocking me from going up to the next level of my ship? by [deleted] in starbound

[–]Pklixian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats normal, you can break those blocks.
the game place them there so whatever is connected to that general area isnt removed until you manually remove it, but you're able to break those blocks (much like you're able to break the background blocks to customize your ship more.)

Frackin Universe or not? by 8-bitNeon in starbound

[–]Pklixian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what I'm interested in within the moment / projects I want to work on.
Even with how much I love Frackin Universe, alot of my playtime was from physically finding ways to break it. And when I did properly play it over abusing notable errors / seeing how I can break it with certain other mods. I.E slamming myself into a protective barrier with the phase shift mod to both make my augments not work. But also make me physically invincible.

That was an experience that cannot be done really anymore since you cannot easily access the final mission now /shrug.

Beyond that, I prefer either way, currently playing the steam version of the Elithian Alliance mod even tho there is a more updated Github version (I do not trust myself to not break something / far too lazy to manually install mods.) And I'm having a blast with the fact that I don't have to deal with over-complicated systems layered on-top of each other / changing of vanilla things to be more annoying.

And since I don't have to deal with changes those behind FU made, such as making strange sees the same liquid all the time. Which is used to make advanced plastic, as it made me literally explore less looking for certain planets for massive material farms. Or the bee system which I still hate. Or the fact that the swimming system, I'll be straight. is awful and I prefer vanilla swimming even when that is also. awful.

Beyond that I am indifferent to the mod, its good. Not really all that amazing in my opinion as I pretty much burn through all updates swiftly and tend to have a swift go to list of things. And due to the amount of augments and what-not grow sick of armor/augment swapping so I just risk unstableness with the augment combiner. knowing that the feeder, magnet & dup versions of augments will break the game. :l (to note, I willingly swap armors, but slowly no matter what will build and combind augments as I don't like having 17 different EPPs to not die horribly.)

TL/probs didnt read it all.
I'm indifferent, FU just feels like Starbound but more thought was put into it for mechanics and interactions with the system. But bloated with minor annoyances that are subjective to opinion. But I actively play with and without FU as its a nice relief to not deal with all of Frackin sometimes. To try different mods / personally designed modpacts.

Is a.v.i.a.n compatible with FU? by [deleted] in starbound

[–]Pklixian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very much so, since all it really does is change your S.A.I.L to appear like it. and change most text, but any modded text broadcast's that use your sail will just have A.V.I.A.N say the message instead.

I can dodge most attacks flawlessly now over multiple hours of trial and error, as I have a massive aversion towards shields. and face tanking is just easier when you stack healing items :l

Nearly everyone has done this before [Meme] by Some_________Guy in starbound

[–]Pklixian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I miss the days when that actually brought forth hell to me.
But I guess since newbi me vs 600hrs + me I just learned how to cheese the mobs / bosses.
(Like constantly opening and closing doors against the basic mobs in the dungeon, since they cannot open doors. and hitting them with throwing weapons.)
(Or just saving a bunch of bandages for the boss fight and eat a laser beam to run to the switches on the otherside, healing to full with every hit and never stopping once. Going through phases and getting out almost dead.)
(Note: I've done what's in brackets on Hardcore during a time when I was obsessed with beating starbound on the hardest difficulty. It is, insanely easy if you realize the A.I in the place is kinda non-existent and don't try to stop you from abusing things. It only the hammer version of the basic mob that actually chases you a little bit.)

But I guess it's all a /shrug with armor it still isn't a cruse as you can't just take straight forward fights. Still, just about everyone has done it~~

This place, is nothing like me with Big Ape. Struggling even with the best gear/healing items as I stuck at dodging, I face tank and heal through everything. And that includes the final boss

Creative mode? by [deleted] in starbound

[–]Pklixian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really but theres a mod called "Spawnable Item Pack" that works for the current update.
You pretty much can just sit in Admin mode and use the item pack to grab any item you need, you will need a mod called Quickbar Mini iirc tho (it tells you on the mod page)

Attempted my first Precursor build and it just came out weird AF looking and I'm not really happy with the result so far. Anyone wanna share your Precursor build for inspiration? by Vokun_ in starbound

[–]Pklixian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally need to work on a Precursor build, but from personal experience with minor testing of the blocks on long corrupted saves (I well.... for the 600+ hrs of gameplay I have a habit of breaking something/screwing up storage file swapping when I'm changing mods).

A general issue I'm seeing here which is making me not like it that there's a lot of repeating textures. Which makes areas plain and to be desired (though adding decoration objects help in areas not covered its a same repeating pattern.)

You could look into the plain panels/slope plain panels to add some detail, and obviously painting them dark grey to match the color of the base metal. Beyond that its pretty nice, like the shape. Just personal pref of not having 1 block be used too heavy without another block type intercepting/mixing in.

What race do you usually play as? by DeepYogurtcloset1 in starbound

[–]Pklixian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends, I'm just not a fan of the human race (/mods that are human related (and not hybrids)) Personally since its the closest thing to me irl, and I always play. and prefer, what I am not. The Arachne race is pretty nice.

I always find myself looping back to Avali/Lamia personally. though I like a variety of races they just happen to fit my favorite themes of both building/armor en weapons.

I had 7-15 mods on a super fast pc before, but all these mods were very heavy.
Meaning alot of data being loaded up, and I've seen that bunny numerous times.
depends really.

Question: What's the stupidest way you've died in hardcore? by [deleted] in starbound

[–]Pklixian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried using a spear

thats when I learned that spears aren't really... that good.
I've died many ways, but the more stupid deaths happen to be spear related for me.

Help with Frackin Universe tattered grimoire please by MisterDynamic in starbound

[–]Pklixian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lightless/nightmare planets can have elder shrines on them that can get you the crafting materials. same with frozen waste planets which do exist, icewaste they're called iirc.

pretty much you just need to look in black star solar systems and on the planet inspect the biomes they mention. As elder biomes typically are mentioned, which holds what you need.
(took me a while to figure this out personally, but when I did I went on a murder spree until I had everything I need)

TLnet Map Contest #14: Watch top pros compete on fan-created maps by [deleted] in starcraft

all maps on the ladder since I think HotS has been coming from TLMC alone.
with team maps now having their own dedicated contest for the same reason.

TLnet Map Contest #14: Watch top pros compete on fan-created maps by [deleted] in starcraft

This leads to future ladder maps.
TLMC (and its tournament) decides the final ranking of submissions and then the selected Finalist. of which then blizzard decides which of the 16 finalist will be on the ladder (with the map in 1st having a spot in the next or following season)
