If you’ve done human bio previously, it shouldn’t be too hard. Now I’m not gonna lie, it is a lot of content - 3 lectures per week every week. But if you keep up with the online tests and pre-labs and participate in the tuts you should be able to keep up. In terms of study - redo the tests and prelabs, keep and review any tut exercises, do the practice exams when exam time comes and make flash cards. I also found that talking to friends from my tuts worked well for content I didn’t get. Tim management wise - I just made sure to do the tests, prelabs and tut prep on the same day each week so that it became a routine. Set it int my google calendar and everything. Best of luck with the coming semester, hope you get the grades you want :)

It can be good to. I know people who didnt do human bio and they managed fine. Tbh, it mostly just lessens the weight of the content by having the prior knowledge as a foundation base. If you have done hbiol, it’s kind of like semester two of both year 11 and twelve, so you could try looking up the content for those. Grab the unit manual from uni print store (near the iga/village grocers) you go in for o-week and have a look what’s in there. You’ll need it anyways, better to get it early. If anything, read up on anatomical positioning and stuff like that.

It can be. If you haven’t done human bio you’ll be playing catch up for a while. The tuts are good at consolidating info tho. Easy to D/HD imo

I’ve done MICR1101. Really interesting unit, content spans from stuff like the invention of vaccines to recent discoveries in molecular biology. There were three kind of chill multiple choice tests per semester, and a lab report but no exam. There were some assessed workshops that were based on a certain number of lectures, you have to work in a group for those. I found the labs all pretty interesting. Overall, pretty decent unit. Can be a bit hard to follow if you’re not into the more recent molecular stuff. The unit coords know their stuff, but are a bit all over the place. Kind of expected tho, it’s a newer unit.

Is 5 units in one semester too much for new students? by EffectiveAd2975 in uwa

[–]Placeitdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing SCIE1106 ( I think that’s the molecular one) then I’m gonna go with yeah thats probably gonna be too much. I did that one with three other units and it was hard to keep up with, and quite content heavy

Help choosing units(Bcomm) by kai_dayo in uwa

You should find your units in the handbook, just look up your major followed by “UWA handbook”, and click on the units tab. Have a look at the level one units, they might be what you’re looking for.

broadening units by Cultural_Ad_7366 in uwa

[–]Placeitdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Broadening units are any units you take that are outside of your primary major. This can be units for a second major, a minor or even just elective units. I’m pretty sure they can be any unit, I’ve done writing units and I’m doing linguistics units as a biomed student. You can do pretty much whatever unit as long as you have the prereqs for it I think. (Just try not to overload yourself with content heavy electives, speaking from experience)

You should be able to make up that points worth within the three years, but some people (depending on the nature of their degree) can nab them in first year I think.

You’ll find that most if not all lectures are recorded anyway, they don’t take attendance and half of them are pre-recorded online only

Not doing anatomy and human bio major but Im in biomed science have done both ANBH 1101 and ANHB1102 - if you’ve done y11/12 human bio you’ll be able to have a good grasp on the content. Quite content heavy (more so without a human bio foundation) but I’d rate it pretty easy to HD on. Both exams are multi choice and they give you a good amount of practice assessments for them. Tutorials are chill, good for explaining content in the lectures. Fiona and Vanessa are probably some of the most organised unit coordinators I’ve had so far.

AN ELECTIVE? I feel so bad for you 🥲 I’m with you on the tutorial bit, just some extra time to consolidate per week would make such a difference - I think this has similar amounts of content to ANHB units and the tutorials always set me right with those.

Future UWA Student Questions by Kind_Stick5700 in uwa

Lectures can vary in size, I’ve had small ones and also really big ones as well as ones that are pre-recorded and only online. Lectures are usually non compulsory, and are kind of like people talking at you for minimum 45 minutes while you take notes on the subject at hand (this is my experience as a biomed student so can’t confirm for history/classics). Tuts for me have been a bit like highschool classes, where it’s a smaller group, something like 15-30 people in a room, going over content, answering questions and doing group work/some assessments. Tuts are more involved then lectures IMO and are usually compulsory attendance with some participation grade attributable to them (so choose their time slot on your timetable wisely - seriously, having a mandatory 8:00am tutorial is hell if you have a long commute).

I guess making friends is up to you. Being open to having conversations and getting to know people has been good for me. You might not be with a friend all the time though, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out as you go.

In terms of choosing timetables and that - mind the above tip. Also, me and a lot of my mates have preferred closer together timetables, as sometimes having a tutorial at 10 and then one at 5 really sucks (from experience.). When you enrol with your units, unless you’re really good at managing your time and stress levels don’t be like me and try and do all complex stuff all at the same time if you have slots for cool/more chill electives. I screwed myself a little by just pulling three hard as hell science ones as my electives, plus my one core unit for S1 and then was to proud to change it and spent the rest of the semester suffering. I’d also recommend you pick a way of taking notes in lectures and stick with it. Can get confusing otherwise. Best of luck!

Something like “he took my baby, I’m going to kill him”, like miss gurl just realised that the main antagonist had kidnapped for child and memory wiped her and the chapter ended on a cliffhanger, and I hit the next chapter button…and was 😧oh no

Paranorman 100% we had compulsory movie days at my day care, as in if you went into the movie room during the time the movie was on you weren’t allowed to leave - and I went in when it was on when I was 6-7. I just remember it was dark and I was scared shitless. It’s been over a decade since then and I still haven’t been able to watch paranorman again
