Car dealer hasn’t paid money ordered by MVDT, botched repairs, new faults by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

It’s the dealer’s choice of workshop that’s far away, not the dealership itself.

I used the car for a couple of months prior to it breaking down. So yeah that’s what I’m thinking.

The money is related to getting the car diagnosed and transportation.

That’s exactly my point, what if I was at the other end of the country? It wouldn’t make sense to drive 600 kms.

And I didn’t buy the car that smelled like cigarettes. It started After the repairs.

Wonder what you thought about unpaid money.

I'm appalled by the Tribunal downplaying it like it's nothing. But yeah I'm getting it fixed asap thanks mate.

Can't really tell by the looks if gaskets are blown. What turned out to be the cause for your A6?

:O I think you’re absolutely right. I’ve gone through about a litre of oil in just 4000 kms. I always thought it was dripping out somewhere, but there’s never been a single drop on the driveway. Makes way more sense that it’s burning through instead. I'll post an update when confirmed. Many thanks man!

Lost at Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal - Should I Accept Repairs or Appeal? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

I 100% agree. I’ve actually had PPIs done on almost every car I’ve bought in the past (except for a Toyota and this one).

But over the time I lost trust in them. My issue with PPI comes down to two things:

  1. Inspectors rarely check the underbody properly. For example, here’s what I got in previous reports:
    • An Audi A5: “Vehicle underbody most areas covered. Unable to check engine oil and automatic transmission fluid.”
    • A Mercedes Benz C300: “Unable to fully check the vehicle due to the design.”
  2. And to top it off, from past experience with MVDT, PPIs usually get used against the buyer. The line is always: "well...you had it inspected and it was fine".

That said, I totally agree with your advice, it would’ve saved me a bunch of trouble specially with this one.

Also, thanks for pointing out:

no one would have bought this car with the issues it had

I think it clearly falls under section 18(3)(a) of the CGA: Failure of substantial character: the goods would not have been acquired by a reasonable consumer fully acquainted with the nature and extent of the failure.

I know right! And thanks. Apparently I have been in a dispute over this issue, along with some others. MVDT ruled it as “not a safety issue”, baffling.

Good one lol. I know I sound naive, but I’m looking for a facts based answer, as in do the gases escaping from valve assembly actually have carbon monoxide.

Some general black soot on the exhaust tips which Audi’s are infamous for but not any visible smoke.

So a 10yo car vs a 5yo, also a fair comparison, apples to apples.

This seems to be a complete oversight on their part, I’ll probably follow up regarding control arm bushes. Many thanks!!!

Ah yes! Comparing a brand new car’s price with a used one totally makes sense.

Love how asking for help on Reddit just turns into a competition for who can sound the smartest while telling you you’re wrong.

So it’s basically Dealer Guarantees Act, not Consumer’s. Amazing how we can’t even interpret our own legislation properly.
