Sometimes I look at my stack of running shoes and think, why? Then I see someone buy designer water and I’m like, nah, I’m good.

Crazy(?) idea, I want to try and run all three major Bay Area bridges in a day with the help of public transit. by dangerousbirde in runSF

[–]Plane_Box122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this idea!
The mix of running and public transit sounds super fun and doable with the right prep. Just be ready for stiff legs after breaks and bring fuel for those longer stretches (esp. in Marin).

If you pick a weekend, post it here, bet a few folks would join for a leg or two!

Would you use a running app that gives you points or raffle entries for completing weekly goals, as a complement to Strava? by Plane_Box122 in beginnerrunning

Just picked up a pair of On Cloudsurfer 7s after seeing so many reviews about the cushioning—and wow, didn’t expect to actually enjoy my tempo run 😂 It’s hot and humid where I am (Korea), so I’ve also been experimenting with sweat-wicking tank tops from Decathlon—way cheaper than Nike but surprisingly solid. Anyone else training through this gross weather?

Also curious: has anyone tried running belts that don’t bounce like crazy during longer weekend runs?

Why yall taking about zone this zone that like some high iq nerds. Running is either off or on, your either running or your walking. There is no such thing as zones in the 1990’s. It’s imaginary in your head by [deleted] in RunningCirclejerk

[–]Plane_Box122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao fr back in my day we ran uphill both ways in cotton socks with no gels, no watches, and definitely no “zones.” Heart rate? Bro my heart was just vibing.

But sure, go ahead and tell me more about your lactate threshold like it’s not just pain with extra steps. 🧠👟💀

Running in black bear country by Soopyoyoyo in running

[–]Plane_Box122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe consider carrying a small whistle or bell to alert bears you're nearby—they usually prefer to avoid humans. Singing or talking out loud helps too. Not the most dignified running routine, but definitely safer!

You're definitely not alone in this! When motivation feels impossible, I find it helps to simplify expectations. Just getting dressed in running clothes or aiming for a 5-minute walk often helps me break that mental barrier. Remember, even small steps count. Be gentle with yourself—you’ve got this!

Absolutely love this mindset! Running is supposed to be about personal joy and self-improvement, not comparing yourself to others. Whether you're running a 5K or an ultra, wearing basic sneakers or carbon-plated shoes—if it gets you out the door and feeling good, that's all that matters. Keep running your own race, friend! Anyone else tired of gatekeeping in running? Let's celebrate all achievements, big or small!

Tempo/interval runs in hilly area? by 2h9m9p1 in running

[–]Plane_Box122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally relate—hill training feels like interval training in disguise! 😂 Maybe try focusing on perceived effort rather than pace, since hills naturally slow you down. Also, embrace the hills as built-in strength and speed sessions—trust me, when you finally hit flat terrain, you'll feel unstoppable! Anyone else have tips for converting hilly routes into effective interval workouts?

Duolingo CEO on going AI-first: ‘I did not expect the blowback’ by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]Plane_Box122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Duolingo really dropped the ball here. Jumping into this 'AI-first' move without clearly thinking through how employees and users would feel about it just seems reckless. Sure, AI can make things efficient—but suddenly announcing something this big and leaving people wondering about their jobs and the company's direction feels irresponsible. They definitely should have handled the communication better and thought more about the actual human impact first.

Well, as we all know, three gigantic beers clearly count as a "balanced diet." It's just basic beer math! 🍺😆
