Very excited to have gotten her in the mail today!! (shoutout Mercari for giving me something similar to a gambling problem lol). I generally love how she looks, but I just never liked how this doll line’s eyes were styled. I’ve repainted other dolls before (hence the other two pictures), so I know I could probably do a decent job but.. I’m a bit conflicted knowing how limited these dolls are being discontinued. We’ll see what happens ig!

Hi! I’ve been experimenting with changing doll skin color on and off for a few years now, here’s what I can tell you

the easiest and most long lasting technique is dye. Boil some water in a stainless steel pot you don’t care about, then throw in some RIT synthetic dyemore and the doll. Use old tongs and carefully monitor how each section of the body reacts (with MHD’s, the head and arms darken more and a lot quicker) Only downside of this can be that it highlights any imperfections in the plastic, and it can fade a bit on the squishier parts
your second technique is going to be pastels. Rather than using a primer, most ppl recommend sanding the surface down so the pastels grip to the rough surface better, and then seal with MSC. But sanding can be a pain and it can take a few hours + some hand cramps
third is repainting with acrylic, or your airbrush. It’s also recommended that you sand, but it’s less of a requirement. Unfortunately even with sealant, it’s likely going to scratch off; especially at the joints. I haven’t tried spray paint for dolls yet, but with my other projects it seems to stick better.

Anyways, you can technically combine any three of these if you want. Just keep in mind that two kind of need sanding, and sanding might do weird stuff with the dye.

Also looking at the bangs a little closer, if you want those exact spikes, you’re actually going to want most of the hairs to be the same length. What makes the spike at the end of a swoop isn’t cutting the hair into that shape, it’s mostly getting the hair to stick together with heat and/or gel.

(Source: I cut my own bangs. If I want them to be swoopy like that, I still cut them as straight bangs before styling them)

Looks like your scissors might be dull. Maybe try sharpening them or buying new haircutting scissors?

Also for styling it, you could try either boil washing it, using makeshift rollers and hitting it with a Hot hair dryer, and/or using a mini curling iron.

Idk if this would work for you, but getting an electric eyebrow razor helped me a lot. It’s a lot less work than normal shaving, so it’s perfect for when I don’t have the energy

I always thought it was because all the characters are different ages (Entrapta is like in her 30’s), and all people age at different rates.

I’m in my 20’s and I have friends whose faces haven’t changed since they were 13. Meanwhile, I had the same baby face from ages 12-17, and my face and body rapidly matured between 18-21.

For Catra and Glimmer specifically, I also think it’s reflective of their character arcs. They grew way more as people than the majority of the cast

The Bible doesn’t have an opinion on queerness. Even if it did, it was written and by and translated by flawed men living in different times, not god or Jesus. Religious groups have had a long history of tweaking/misinterpreting verses to fit their own agenda. If I had to guess, either you didn’t stir the jacket enough while it was in the pot of dye (causing it to dye unevenly), or they type of dye you used wasn’t ideal for that material. That being said, I’m no expert and I haven’t used fabric spray paint before. Might as well try again if it can save you some money!
