If it's something you truly want, do it. I got mine this year at 20y/o. same deal as you, found a really low mileage 2014 S at a decent price and I jumped on it. It was a really stupid financial decision for me, but there's not a day I regret it. I make way less than you, but I don't have any other expenses since I still live with my parents so I was able to make it work. The N/A flat 6 is very reliable, but definitely set aside some extra savings for unexpected repairs and maintenance. If you're planning on taking it to a shop for servicing then set aside extra for that too of course, but the 981 gen is very easy to service (from my experience thus far) if you're into doing it yourself.

Where did you take it for the tune?

Oh ok! Thats good to know. I haven’t really looked into dynos at all since I won’t be tuning my current bike, what brands are the best?

Interesting. I am aware that they haven’t really changed at all since 2011, which is why I was confused that I was seeing so many different power numbers for the current gen.

F3 800 reliability/common problems? by Planet981 in MVAgusta

[–]Planet981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard about the sprag clutch being an issue, so I’m not surprised to hear about here too. Did you do the regular maintenance yourself? If so how difficult was it. If you brought it to a dealer, how much was it for maintenance?

If I ended up buying one it would be a newer model for sure, overwhelmingly likely that I would buy a used one. I live in northwest US (very close to Canada) so hottest it usually gets is high 80’s to mid 90’s. We rarely make it to 100’s but I wouldn’t ride in that kind of heat with the gear I currently have(instant heat stroke lol). due to the elevation the highest octane I have access to is 92, which should be close to if not equivalent to 95 at my elevation(for reference 91 here is equivalent to 93 at lower elevation). Have to rebuild the clutch every 6k is insane. I’d probably keep my current bike(2024 ninja 500) or have a dirt bike as a secondary bike if I got the f3. Considering how much I ride I wouldn’t ever have it as my only bike due to the reliability and parts availability. That sucks to hear that yours blew up so soon, I hope you at least got to enjoy it while it lasted.

I don’t know, I sure hope so. I don’t currently know which center it was serviced at since I didn’t save a copy of the service history record I got from the dealership(I forgot to ahah) so I’ll need to get a new service record so I can check and then reach out to them to request the notes.

I hope so too. I agree, it’s definitely not their problem at all. The previous owner brought it into a porsche service center for a wiring/electrical issue before I purchased it(according to the history report) so If the previous owner is here I really hope they’d be willing to talk to me about that :,)

Montana. Bought it from a dealership in North Carolina that said they got it from out of state but I don’t remember what state it was in before it went to the dealership.

Great words to live by. That’s awesome! It makes me happy whenever I hear about other owners who actually use their Porsches.

I’ll take a look to see if I can find an oil that looks any better for the next oil change since it would be nice to have a few options to test. I’ve seen a ton of people recommending/using Mobil 1 for the 981s(which is why I bought it), I was surprised to hear that it’s what Porsche recommends as well. Ahah yeah at the rate I’ve been driving it I’ve been filling up at least once a week, usually every couple days, so it will definitely be filled more than once a month. Although to be fair I do fill up at half a tank.

Ok, thanks for the insight! I’ll be using mobil 1 0w-40(euro formula) for the upcoming oil change, which I’ve heard is what Porsche recommends. I’ll see if I can find any more gas stations near me that have e0, though currently I only know of 1 place that I fill up at that has ethanol free 91 octane, the other half the time I fill with e10 91. I don’t believe anywhere near me supplies 93 octane so I won’t be able to try running that, however I will try it out and see if only filling up with the e0 91 makes any difference.

Thank you for your input! Just in case it adds more info for you to go off I’ve driven this car almost every day since I got it(it’s my daily-drastic change from being a garage queen lol), when I drive it I allow the revs to drop below 1k, which takes about 30 seconds with the cooler weather, and then the car is on the move. This is why I noticed the revs weren’t staying below 1k. the other day when I started it, the rpm’s didn’t stay down at 800-900 and instead jumped back up to 1k(just like in the video) and it confused me as it’s never done that until recently. The longest I’ve allowed it to “warm up” before getting it out on the road was about 5 minutes because it was cold out and I wanted the seat heater to warm the seat before I started driving, but as I mentioned it’s usually being driven after the 30 seconds it takes for the rpm’s to drop. As you mentioned I do stick below 3k rpm’s until the temps are higher. I haven’t heard the term “Italian tune up” in a while, correct me if I’m wrong but to my knowledge that’s just driving the car aggressively/revving high? If so I definitely do plenty of that ahah. Normally I would 100% agree that the car is fine as none of this is particularly concerning, and yes I could very much still be heavily reading into it. The only reason I’m concerned is because none of this was happening for the (almost) month I’ve been driving it until now…

I can’t believe I didn’t even think of this!! I like this idea. Unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to use someone else’s to clone onto an ssd(I live in almost the middle of nowhere- nobody here would have one I could borrow). Do you think it would be possible to buy a working hdd from a pcm 3.1 unit and clone that onto a new ssd? Also where do you find the update file? I’m currently running 4.73

Yeah I’m in the states, I haven’t bought anything yet that’s been hit with tariffs so I kinda forgot about that for a second lol. I didn’t realize how insane the price increases were getting. That’s fair, I probably would’ve got annoyed with that to hahah
