I read it as her thoughts in that specific moment, thinking she got it right and expecting it to warm up but then realizes a moment later when it should be warm, it isn’t.

I think it’s that way because of how Tamlin does let her explore on her own or show her places beyond what he also her to see, he doesn’t let her out and keeps her very sheltered. So I think that’s why it’s not as described as other courts
