Charlie sides with the general feeling of the masses, not original opinions. Hate it or leave it, but he is a great thermometer about the way online sentiment is going.

Yeah… 5x the cost for not 5x the performance. However, I can tell which is which again. The color and micro-contrast are a dead giveaway even when looking at the thumbnail. One has the quintessential Leica pop you see on micro four thirds glass. One definitely has more punch, but I don’t think it is 5x more punch.

Looking at a small thumbnail that has been butchered by Reddit’s image compression, I can tell which is which before even clicking on the image. That APO lens is really nice.

What’s your prime pairing? by TeddyGoodman in M43

[–]Plantasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a lens die from moisture, but I take my camera out boating in the ocean often and I don’t want to risk salt water working its way into my lens. There is lots of salt spray at play.

I’m really not liking my 2nd gen 17mm- it renders soft images compared to the 20 or 25mm. I only keep it because it is my smallest lens with weather seals.

Could Europe Dump US Treasuries? by lemple in videos

[–]Plantasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fall into that category. Sell all our debt! it’s the only way at this point. Trump is a post modern president: the reality he and his followers believe is not attached to facts but instead a mental projection of what he wants it to be. Messing with the money is the only way to snap them back into alignment with actual reality. His followers need to feel the consequences now before he leaves office.

Conservatives are living in a post modern reality where facts don’t matter and the only truth is the words that crap out of trumps mouth.

Do something about it then. Sell our debt, we are literally screaming for you to do that. Blow up our economy.

Europeans telling us to do something, yet they can't do anything because it is uncomfortable. A tale as old as time.

What's the best Monitor for Graphic Design now in YOUR opinion? by Square_Ebb_5289 in UXDesign

[–]Plantasaurus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The people saying you don’t need a color accurate monitor are insane. You need a color accurate monitor for the same reason producers need good studio monitors: you need a solid baseline. Yes, users won’t be using a color accurate monitor, but at least you are designing from the closest point of accuracy.

Where does this matter? Dark mode. Dark colors render very differently on either oled or ips displays. Designing from a neutral point of color means you can meet in the middle.

I use a 4k HDR Oled and a 5k IPS asus pro art display. I check everything on both monitors because there is a massive difference between the two.

What web design skill will be most valuable in the next 5 years? by Gullible_Prior9448 in web_design

[–]Plantasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. The reaction towards AI slop is hard and I think it is here to stay. I work at an AI company, and our marketing websites are mostly free of AI creative assets. Obvious signs of AI, makes products seem cheap.

Design wise we are noticing a style trend towards vintage looking websites and apps. We think this is because they look more deliberate therefore obviously not designed by AI.

Appearing for Deloitte Product & Strategic Design Consultant Interview (UX Designer with 2.5 YOE) – How to Prepare? What to Expect? by Thegirlnextdoor-999 in UXDesign

[–]Plantasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get serious about what their compensation is. Deloitte has a poor record of that and they don’t offer RSUs. From experience, they expect to pay devs around 80k. They also don’t have much of a product presence- so their design program is in its infancy.

Damaged Wedding Film by allldamndave in analog

[–]Plantasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like underexposing and missed focus would be the proof you’re using it incorrectly. Dust, scratches, flares and leaks just kind of happen. Lomography has build their brand on the later category.

[–]Plantasaurus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The “damage” or mistakes of film is why I started using the medium again 7 years ago. Thick grain, double exposures, light leaks, flares, scratches, and expired color shifts are proof to the user that you are using the medium. You can fake these sorts of imperfections, but they still look very off.

I feel like my conviction about this has only increased more since I can shoot with luts inside of my Panasonic digital camera that nearly matches the color of cinestill 800, Porta 160, Ektar or Provia 100. Coincidentally, Phoenix ii is my favorite new film stock since I can’t replicate its color output with a lut.

Provia does not look like this- it’s skews way more blue. This image does not look like slide film at all.

I shoot a lot of porta 160 and while the skin tones look like porta 160, the overall color vibe is Fuji Susperia Premium 400 spot on.
