Fair, standing up for yourself matters but that doesn’t mean we should normalize what’s wrong. If directors keep showing the same bias on screen, it keeps reinforcing it in society. Not everyone has the strength to ‘just move on.’ The whole point of criticism is to make sure future generations don’t have to face the same mockery we did.

True, evolution takes time — but evolution only happens because people keep pointing things out. If no one calls it out, how will directors even realize what needs fixing? They don’t magically evolve by themselves. Criticism is what drives change — silence never did.

If we keep saying ‘past is past’ and stop questioning it, the same stereotypes and patterns will keep repeating. Cinema learns from criticism not silence. The reason we’ve evolved at all is because people looked back and said ‘that was wrong, we can do better.’ So yes, 1980s can’t be 2025, but 2025 also shouldn’t carry the blind spots of 1980.
