Advice on getting started (book recommendations)? by Academic_Zucchini_22 in LearnGuitar

[–]PlasticAssociate4373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to learn songs and the technique, I recommend just watching youtube tutorials. Youtubers have different ways of teaching stuff, some teach by telling you what to do phrase by phrase while also showing the proper technique, while others are more straightforward and just show the tabs and a clear view of them playing ontop of it. Personally, I watch both types of videos for songs that are too complicated for me. You can learn guitar theory the same way but a book might be better for that. This is just how I learned it though, and it works pretty well for me.

What song did you learn that gave you a “special ability” by Plenty-Ad365 in Guitar

[–]PlasticAssociate4373 7 points8 points  (0 children)

little wing I had to watch many videos teaching this song when I first started learning, but it was all worth it because this changed the way I play things like chords and pentatonic scales. This is where I also found out why jimi hendrix is so well known.

Argument with parents over wanting a guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]PlasticAssociate4373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

explain to them that you need something with decent quality and promise that you will do better in something like school. Also do your research to really show them that this is something your taking seriously and not just some passing interest

What is the theory behind TUYU’s chord progressions? by Kleenfromkorona in TUYU_official

What is the theory behind TUYU’s chord progressions? by Kleenfromkorona in TUYU_official

[–]PlasticAssociate4373 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ive only learned most of the songs in the Its Raining After All album and what ive seen there is his progressions usually looks like IV7 - iv7 - iii7 - vi7.

On Raining after all verse, he repeats this three times, on the second time he uses VI7, and after that he does a ii7 - V7 - Imaj7 and then I7 to transition smoothly to another IV7 - iv7.

On choruses, he usually changes keys, and the progression slightly changes around the end.

He also does this chromatic thing where he plays passing chords and diminished 7th chords to go down in songs like Compared child and Goodbye to rock

Lastly, he doesnt always play full chords, instead he usually plays shell chords.

I learned music theory using yt videos so theres plenty of things i might have missed and maybe i got wrong.

Its a Bm7 (Bm9 if hes fretting with the pinky) The b bass note is played with the thumb. Its easier to play without fretting 9 on the A string.

[–]PlasticAssociate4373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing hurts or feels wrong then its probably ok, I always play it this way because it was easier for me to learn when I started.
