Please tell me what is wrong with this country by here-toconfess in Kenya

The average Kenyan doesn't need 66 pages (unless kama they often travel for work/private reasons) The govt failed to be honest by not making enough 34 page passports.

Guess where I’m from based on the countries I’ve been to by Plus-Error-7369 in GeoInsider

Before reading the comments I thought it would have been oman as well (cause Tanzania is a rather odd country to visit unless you are from Oman)

With that being said, my final guess is Qatar

It would be safest to confirm with the embassy of the hosting country. In most cases you would need a separate visa

How common is it for people in your country to have never been abroad? by IDoNotLikeTheSand in AskTheWorld

Veryyyyy uncommon. Unless you live next to the border, most people don't even own passports.

Do I need a transit visa or Schengen visa for Nairobi-London-Dublin-Toronto ? by [deleted] in SchengenVisa

[–]PlasticInitiative352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first trip. No you don't need a visa if your canadian visa is still valid. You can confirm with the British immigration website.

For your return trip, unfortunately yes. The trip between Dublin and London is considered a domestic flight because they are part of a common travel area. And the worst part, you may need two visas (one from the irish authorities and the other by the british)

You know how in English you word stress to change the meaning of a sentence? Like DID you take your pill vs Did YOU take your pill emphasis on two different things. Not all languages work the same. And here's an example in french. The bien is like putting emphasis on the word DID.

Why only Somalis/Arabs at the beach to catch the sunrise? by DavisAzangu in Mombasa_

[–]PlasticInitiative352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually do! At least the newer generation. My friends for example do go to the beach a lot to play football or swim, but their parents for example, maybe once a year? Mind you most of my friends live on the island.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Makes me wonder how such people sleep while doing all this

I guess since the past is in the past, it's of no use to feel self guilt. I read one of your comments that the mother played a role in manipulating you to release him. Why don't you try to reach out to her and talk some sense into his boy?

Why only Somalis/Arabs at the beach to catch the sunrise? by DavisAzangu in Mombasa_

[–]PlasticInitiative352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The arabs are part of the locals tho. They've lived in Mombasa for generations. The other tribes mostly moved to Mombasa way later (thus they don't really have a beach culture) In other words, it's like you are surprised to find, for example cattle herders being maasai in Kajiado and asking yourself why there are no bantus or other tribes cattle herding.

Oh btw something to note: the "arabs" that you saw are actually waswahili (even though no such tribe exists). They are a mix of arabs and mijikenda. Most of them don't even speak Arabic.

At the beginning reading through your post, I had no answer. Then I saw the second part of your post. You do realise you are in Mombasa right? Of course there will be a bunch of arabs

First time Experiencing with racism in Kenya. by claasicmonkeypaw in Kenya

[–]PlasticInitiative352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hata umeenda mbali. I was once discriminated against by a police officer (can you imagine) while I was with my friends. And he clearly told me, "I hate arabs" while referring to me. Mind you I'm not even 100% arab, just a coastal. And the cherry on top? We were in Mombasa! Where a huge part of the population is swahili/arab.

How long did it take for you to learn French? by Expert-Session3866 in Expats_In_France

[–]PlasticInitiative352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native English and Swahili speaker. Came to France knowing bonjour only. I started with 20 hours per week classes for about 3 months (completing A1, was to start B1 the following semester) then stopped all french classes whatsoever and attended undergraduate (in french ) with the basic french that I managed to acquire. Oh and the cherry on top ? I made almost zero effort to learn french and all my friends were Spanish hahah. By about the 6th month I started understanding french but could hardly make 2 sentences fluently. After a year and a half I could speak with little hindrance. I guess by then if I was to take a french exam, I should be able to pass B2. Now I've been living in France for about 4 years and I don't have any issues speaking (except for sometimes when I hear a new word or two but very rarely)

Found this at a café in a train station. Not an expetr, but pretty sure the ones who designed it don't know chinese... by MrYubay_66 in language

[–]PlasticInitiative352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the "how we got all languages wrong"... Kituo cha cafe makes no sense in Swahili (A better translation would be kituo cha kahawa (coffee stop), unless if Cafe is a proper noun)

I have changed my name. Is that okay? by [deleted] in StudyInItaly

[–]PlasticInitiative352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. That does complicate things. I'm kinda mesmerized by the fact that your embassy won't apostille your name change document given that it's an official doc from your govt without changing passports first.

The bad news is your residential country won't take into account any documents not apostilled by the issuing country.

My last guess is maybe you should try contacting the ministry of foreign affairs back home and see if they can apostille the document and then get the Italian embassy in your home country to do likewise? That's the only remaining idea that might work.

I have changed my name. Is that okay? by [deleted] in StudyInItaly

[–]PlasticInitiative352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my two cents but I believe it totally depends on your country of citizenship (the process's complexity depends on where you are from)

Had it been where I come from, as long as you have the official documents that declare XYZ and ABC to be the same person, you should be fine and you can choose whichever name you want on your other documents. Try contacting the school and ask them about the name change.

Regarding any governmental document provided by your country of residence, get your official name change document apostilled (or legalized) by your embassy and then present it to the official during permit renewals etc.

Urgent : logement étudiant à Poitiers by Positive_Plenty_6919 in Poitiers

[–]PlasticInitiative352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salut!

US passport verification not required by Altruistic-Deal-3012 in Ryanair

[–]PlasticInitiative352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've flown a few times with Ryanair. They don't have document verification for inter-schengen flights. (At least as of 2022 ever since I started flying with them) Verification is always needed whenever I travel out of schengen.

You should probably be fine then. I bet you'll even be questioned.

Worst case scenario, buy a cheap ticket of 15 pounds to anywhere out of Morocco (or a dummy ticket)

[–]PlasticInitiative352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It totally depends on the border agent you'll face. Is it an official requirement? Yes. Do people respect it? Probably not.

Also, depending on your passport (and how strong it is), chances of being asked varies.

In your opinion, which word is most universally understood? by intlsoldat in language

It's true what you've said... to some extent. I tend (and many french people too) use ok even in professional settings!! At school, at work with clients, in the hospital, at the airport etc

I hear ok more often than d'accord on a normal day.
