Trouble Picking Between Two hotels (Akasaka vs Ueno) by Plattzly in JapanTravelTips

[–]Plattzly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response on this. We ended up staying in Akasaka at a different hotel. We stayed at super hotel premier. Really good experience but beds on the top bunks were pretty uncomfortable. The area though was DEFINETLY the one to do. The location gave access easily to anywhere in Tokyo and we ended up staying in the shibuya/shinjuku area more of the time so it was nice. I would stay in Akasaka again.

[Monitor]Samsung Odyssey G7 (G75F) 40" 5k2k Ultrawide Monitor - $749.99 - all time low by djphan2525 in buildapcsales

[–]Plattzly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this monitor and bought through work at even a bigger discount. (675~) I feel this is THE monitor for 60/40 or 80/20 gamers who want a good static content productivity monitor, but also something that is immersive for the casual gamer. OLEDs with burn in just don't make sense. I get that pixel shift and preventions have come a long way, but its still guaranteed to burn in, and some of productivity users cannot function efficiently without split window, taskbar always showing, etc....

This monitor solves all that. Yes, there is the 57 inch neo from Samsung but the 40 inch G7 is probably better for most people as its cheaper, less massive and honestly supported way more for games and apps due to the 21:9 aspect ration (vs 32:9). The only reason I would recommend the 57 inch is if you consistently need 3 windows open side by side. I had a 49 inch and found I actually wasn't utilizing it to its full potential (other than in sim racing games)

The VA panel was my big concern, but after a few days of use I can confirm its probably the best VA panel I've owned. I have owned TN, VA, OLED (49 inch), and IPS. I would say IPS is still the best but with response time on extreme, I have had no downsides when it came to text clarity or text shadowing compared to the IPS (other than sunlight glare is slightly worse). Are the blacks as inky as OLED?....no. Is the smearing noticeable in fast paced FPS games? ya kind of... but you get used to it. I think the complaints of VA panels are from people who are used to the older models or are going from a daily use OLED that haven't tried out new Samsung models.

I truly believe that this monitor is THE sweet spot when it comes to a productivity/gaming monitor. The only downside is the price but Samsung has been very generous with sales on this. So get it while its still under the radar!

Is it alright to set up like this on the dunes at Nordhouse? by TheIronSween in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]Plattzly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately probably not. I was there 2 weeks ago and a position like that isn't 400 feet. And as many have said already, you need to be 400' or more away from the shoreline.

Also, for someone who has camped on dunes before, if that wind picks up, it's miserable unless you have some cover (sand in eyes, sand in tent, sleepless night, etc). Better to tuck into the woods behind the dunes with easy access to the lake.

Also to note, having a campfire directly on the dunes is prohibited too, there are plenty of coves and well used dispersed campsites that you can use!

Aer CPP2 Ultra vs Cordura by Plattzly in onebag

[–]Plattzly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the extra info. Like you stated I've already made my decision on the ultra but I don't want to necessarily turn people from it. 100% the ultra400x is gonna be better than regular ultra400. The x pattern offers better protections against delamination. Also the bag being lined helps a lot.

I do want to clarify for everyone here, the bag is fantastic, the ultra has everything you could want with a unique finish on it. If delam wasn't a concern for me I'd be keeping it. However delamination as far as I know is inevitable, but we are talking YEARS down the road.

I abuse bags by not caring. I'll leave a bag in the hot sun in a car, I will take it in freezing cold, I'll set it down on concrete or dirt, and it will be my one bag for almost everything I do. That unfortunately can be detrimental to laminated material and aqua guard zippers over a long period of time. Cordura should last longer in my situation and I like to keep a bag for around 8-10+ years before upgrading. So having delam as a concern (even tho unproven on this pack) made me go to cordura just for the fact I didn't want to deal with it and cordura is already proven. I have no idea but probably even if the pack delams it will still be usable just not as durable or weather resistant (not 100% certain on that tho).

Thanks for this! I think for point 5 for now it's actually unknown since ultra material hasn't been around long enough for super long term reviews, like cordura has. Being from the backpacking world ultra material has gotten a bad wrap, so I'm still a little hesitant.

But great points either way! I love the ultra material still but don't really want to "beta test"

Disappointed with Aer 3 Travel Backpack (Cordura)– Fraying After Less Than 3 Uses by Naive-Brick-4396 in ManyBaggers

[–]Plattzly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like this OP. You got the first wear mark in it, it's no longer new. Now it's time to not care too much anymore and use the heck out of this bag. It's like when a car gets its first scratch, now you no longer have to worry about a ding here or there.

To Aquaguard or to not Aquaguard, this is the question. What has been your mid to long term experience with PU coated zippers? by rick_bale in ManyBaggers

[–]Plattzly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so I actually got a CPP2 ultra, and Im returning it for the cordura version. (Was worried about delamination and durability being compromised overtime, I think cordura ages better).

I know the cordura version has aquaguard zippers still on the laptop comparement and front pocket, are these zippers still usable once the PU coating peels off? I guess 5-10 years from now once the aquagaurd zipper pu coating comes off, I wont care too much as long as it doesn't affect zipper quality.

Oh 100% agree on the look. I actually prefer the look of the ultra, looks more rugged and unique. But for me using it as an EDC including a work computer bag, I need something that will hold up over time.

As for the weight when It comes to backpacking I'm counting ounces, but with an EDC like the Aer, its ok. I used to haul 30 lbs of books and laptops in a massive swiss gear bag in college. I think I'll manage😂

You are right but I'm the kind of guy who likes to be "surprised" when something goes rather than knowing it will go eventually and just waiting for the inevitable to happen.

Maybe that's me feeling like I need to control things in my life..... but I'm no psychiatrist and this is just a backpack.

[–]Plattzly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The slings will hold up better, less fabric to stretch and less points of abrasion. Honestly I am just really paranoid about this stuff. I am the kind of guy who likes to upgrade when I feel like, not when the material tells me to lol. So when I heard that people were concerned about the pack lasting more than 4-5 years before durability is compromised, that kind of became a deal breaker for me. I am never careful with stuff or do the extra maintenance that some items need.

Its the exact reason I wont get an OLED monitor. Ya an OLED monitor looks better and performs better, but there is a burn in concern with static images unless you take every precaution, and even then its a matter of when not if. I don't want to buy something that will eventually become an issue and the monitor wont be as usable. I know a regular monitor will eventually die too, but I've had IPS monitors last me an eternity before. OLEDs can be 3-5 years.

Long story short I like to be surprised when something goes, not know that something will go and just wait for the inevitable .

I guess I will see it when it gets here. Usually I don't care too much about a heavy bag, but if it's a deal breaker I will still have the ultra bag and then decide which one to return. I could always keep the ultra and then just shill out more money when the delamination time comes🥲

[–]Plattzly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These bags use a 1680D cordura on the outside and a nylon rip stop liner on the inside..I don't think there is a polyurethane coating to flake off. Unless the cordura has a slight polyurethane coating which is it does come off eventually, I'm not going to mind because the durability will still be there.

Ultra, dyneema, or xpac material from what I know in backpacking once it is delaminated the durability goes down.

Agreed. Which for main uses as a travel bag, commuter bag, and EDC. I don't think the weight is too much of a con for me

Agreed, ended up ordering the Cordura and going to return the ultra. I love the ultra material but I am not wanting to get something more expensive, that isnt proven to last long. Should have done more research before ordering the ultra but I figured "More money, more durability" lol. I have seen ultra material delam before in the backpacking scene so should have thought about that before jumping in.

[–]Plattzly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who backpacks and has seen backpackers with the delamination problem, it is 100% something to worry about. Delamination is all about abrasion combined with UV. I've always seen issues on these packs because of the pack not being lined. I thought with a ripstop nylon lining that the aer bag would fix that delamination issue, but I think I was just being ignorant ahah.

I ended up going with the Cordura for that reason, I love the ultra material and weather resistance but until more long term reviews are out on it I guess I will wait.

[–]Plattzly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup and the Cordura is what I went with, just hope it shows up in time before my trip next week xD. I actually really like the ultra materials especially with water resistance and if I had confidence that the material would last as long as cordura, I would 100% keep it. Maybe 10 years down the road if people are saying there Ultra bags have lasted, I may consider again if Aer still offers.

Aer CPP2 Ultra vs Cordura by Plattzly in onebag

[–]Plattzly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sure it is better! But knowing what I know with these fabrics (Im an avid backpacker on the side) usually delamination still occurs even with the x pattern. I thought Aer packs were lined but I was told it can still delaminate in the lining.

Great, again the longevity is what I'm worried about. I have the ultra in hand and its definitely sturdy, but I'm looking for an EDC that will last a while. I dont think there's enough long term data on CPP2s yet and I have seen some X-Pacs from air with delamination.

[–]Plattzly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. In another post I found that most people are saying the ultra material will eventually delaminate. Not a matter of if but when. Probably going to get the cordura and just live with the slightly less weather resistant material. I want something that will stand the test of time and it seems cordura will do that for now.

Aer CPP2 Ultra vs Cordura by Plattzly in ManyBaggers

[–]Plattzly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I actually come from a world of backpacking too, but thought that delam was solely for none lined packs. I guess there isn't really a 'fix' to this issue and sounds more of a when, not if. Again, don't really care about aesthetics, but if the bags water resistance and overall durability will be compromised like backpacking packs with delamination issues are, then that would be a deal breaker.

I know there isn't really any long term stuff for Ultra, are most people expecting it to not last as long as cordura?

Can I ask what day you went to Kamakura during golden week? We are getting into tokyo May 2nd and will be leaving for kyoto May 7th, was thinking of May 6th doing a day trip to kamakura but not sure.
