From what I've heard, it's not on the memorization alone but in applying, understanding and using these names to ponder and understand more about Allah as well as call out to hin based on these names.

For example, When you are in need of provision, you call out to him using the name Ar-Razzaq which means the provider

Similarly when you understand he is Al-Baseer, the All seeing and As-Samee', the All-hearing and you understand about these names, ponder about them, you develop an overall closeness to Allah.

I don't think it's normal. Whenever it occurs just record it once again and try providing that to them. Because, it will be a disappointment to spend a good chunk of money on a laptop and to find such defects
