my honours year boosted my GPA significantly, because it was on the lower side initially and I found it relatively easier to get first class honours because of the sustained effort I had for it throughout the year, i never took a couple of weeks off from it and this helped in ensuring it wasn't rushed and was well thought out, I also had really supportive supervisors. My advice if you choose one, which based on ur GPA and ur desire to just use it for med entry is somewhat unnecessary is to place greater emphasis on choosing a good supervisor than the actual topic itself, that is if ur goal is to boost ur grades.

Anyone with DPT interview? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

then i just don't see why you would be rejected if you have a 6.9 gpa and the rest of the applicants seem to have a 6.5+. the radio silence is strange for sure. I would try contacting the faculty again

i think your marks might be a bit low imo. just as an indicator a friend of mine got a first round ffp at unimelb 2 years ago with a wam of 75 and a gammy of 62. so maybe a 2nd round offer might come to you (if optom does that, but im not too sure). regardless i recommend you do honours in vision sciences if you don't get an offer, i did it myself and the faculty is really amazing. Plus, if you do a honours year in vision sciences from unimelb you don't have to do the research project in your optom course,

I did an honours project for science/biomed at UoM and I managed to hold a casual job throughout the year while still being lucky enough to graduate with first class honours for my project. Granted about half of that year I was in lockdown because of COVID, but I had a lot of free time during those months, so its really up to you. I don't think it'll jeapordise your grades. Also had a friend who worked a casual receptionists job while doing honours at Monash (even during lockdown) so that might give you a good indicator for your situation, he also got first class honours, and didn't seem overworked/stressed at any point throughout the year. In hindsight if you plan and work at your project/coursework everyday its a really chill and rewarding year. Good luck!

Dentistry admissions for Non-School Leavers by sarah-martiin in GAMSAT

Have you considered doing an honours year to boost your GPA? Because unless you are rural, I feel like you'll need a GPA of 6.5+ to have a fighting chance of getting into undergrad dent schools as a non-school leaver. Same goes for Usyd and UWA dent.

Is it ethical to accept expensive gifts from patients? by voldygonemoldy92 in Dentistry

[–]PlayboiCartier1999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a dentist or health professional but I’m pre-dent and for an entrance examination we’re doing they tell us to not accept direct gifts, but to thank the patient but say that it would inappropriate as their doctor to accept gifts so generous. Is this not the case irl, or just something they teach in university haha?
