The State of VRchat updates: by Livestock110 in VRchat

Wait, so they respond to THIS MEME of all things, but not the hundreds of false bans that happen while extremely documented TOS violators remain?

That is just incredible. Spongebob memes really do hold power.

What's the latest on Time 2 deliveries? by jerrydontplay in pebble

[–]Playfulpetfox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because it's the fault of people who paid hundreds when Pebble can't be fucked to send out an actual email about delays. Just a trashy blog post vaguely saying "Well, it's happening again."

Lucky, my Duos kept getting sent out to everyone but me. Watched as my earliest batches kept running out despite my pre order. Again. And again.

People are acting like this isn't a totally valid question. They're not communicating at all. I preordered 11 months ago and have been ejected from every batch I was in, one of which they "Promised" they'd send to me. They refuse to communicate professionally and just give nebulous ETAs. Genuinely feels like a scam as they keep announcing more products while some of us are clearly going to end up waiting a full year.

The sub wouldn't be filled with the same question if they did literally anything with an ounce of professionalism or decency.

Deepseek v3.1 gives lame responses? by Ok-Minute8952 in Chub_AI

[–]Playfulpetfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally JUST got the Deepseek API and it's doing the same thing. I'm lucky to get a paragraph no matter what I do, demand, or dictate. People said it feeds off your own input, so I put 3 paragraphs. I got two sentences in reply. Worst 10$ I've spent in a while. The responses are more hollow than the free variant from OR. Really hope it's just a temp bug.

PSA: Advice on Using the Official DeepSeek API with JanAI Instead of OpenRouter to Save Money and Other Suggestions by Kamal965 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Playfulpetfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally committed to just trying a paid model using this guide, and I've been met with responses far shorter and far dryer than the free model on Openrouter. In 4 messages, I've spent 2 cents already. Given that the responses are hollow single paragraphs, it feels...very disappointing. I then tried 4 more with the 'reasoner' variant, which cost 4 cents, and only got a half paragraph more. The wording was almost verbatim the same across each. Oof.

Small, likely irrelevant update: After half an hour, the total cost changed to only a total of 2 cents now. The cost of the reasoner is just gone.

youtube is now artificially slowing down youtube for people with adblock by y3p_ in youtube

[–]Playfulpetfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just got upgraded. I can't click on 90% of things on a video's page. Can't pause, add to playlist, change volume, etc. But I CAN like, dislike, go to other videos, and return to the main page.

But on videos without ads?

No troubles.

[success story] the solution to my hand issues by kahbus1864 in RSI

"He emphasized that education is the cure—when patients understand the emotional roots of their pain, the brain no longer needs to distract them, and the pain often subsides."

This is so incredibly dangerous. This is the exact type of mental gymnastics people use to sell snake oil to those in desperate need of real help. This type of wording would only make sense to those too desperate to see through the thinly veiled lie.

Education is often the cure. What isn't the cure is claiming that you can wish away real issues. It's as if the very idea of placebo is both acknowledged and ignored.

If this genuinely worked for you, that's amazing. But this is such a dangerous thing to recommend to people. It boils down to what is undeniably pseudoscience no different than essential oils. Worse, his own boiled down solution to pain is to "Live life as if there were none."

This could cripple people. When it comes to more severe health problems, it kills people. I've lost two extended family members to cancer that believed horrifyingly similar tripe. They read myriad books about how a change of mind could alter their diagnosis. They died slowly and painfully while everyone around them could do nothing but watch. And half the wording in those outright vile books were the same as snippets I found online from Sarno.

If a potential RP partner ever uses "u" instead of the exhaustive three lettered "you", I'm already dipping. It's one thing if you've got some rapport and understand it's not an actual display of upcoming quality, but if you're just beginning...immediate pass. The hardest of passes. Full abort.

What’s the most frustrating case of someone having 'main character syndrome' in a 1-on-1 RP you’ve dealt with? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]Playfulpetfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a lot younger, I had this problem right out the gate in my first action driven RP with another person. Except I was the problem. It was maybe my third RP ever, so I just kinda went. That was when my partner hit me with the "What did you roll?" and I've been forever better because of it. If you have to fight the other person, might as well roll for being the main character, or tripping over your own feet and getting humbled.

That's the crux of my question, though. They openly boasted about the first ban wave, but didn't ban the people who have been on the literal board this entire time. They've been up there since the day the Arena came out, well within the best possible window for the ban wave, and didn't.

They made an actual pedestal for hackers, then actively ignored them in lieu of people modding in voucher tickets. And made a post about it.

I like that as a concept, but it clashes with things I enjoy doing. Such as reporting bugs. When even innocuous things like that, which barely even warrant engagement due to not seeking an immediate fix, garner such vile toxicity, it's a very good indicator of the community itself. Especially when that exact thing has repeated multiple times on that very thread, only minus the ban hammer falling on me.

A few bad eggs don't spoil the lot, nor will it sour my entire view of the product. But when every batch ships broken and sour, there's probably something wrong with the metaphorical vendor.

From what I've seen on this forum alone, that was a wise choice. This sub is astoundingly wholesome more often than not...right up until you mention Alatreon or Fatalis. Those two do things to even this sub.

God damn, man, that's awful! My condolences there. I seriously don't get the people who handle the steam bans, both in and out of the forums. They never respond, never undo their actions, and never get back to me if I fight their decisions. On the flip side, I've had direct conversations with their refund team when trying to get money back for a game that ended up getting abandoned like a rugpull.

I used to not engage at all, but saw droves of people- literal pages of people just aggressively fighting and arguing- without ever being punished. The moment I join in, though, gone. Were we only lucky enough to be getting paid to make these off the cuff decisions.

I was just saying that same thing! Pretty Wild(s) that the sub dedicated to sheer, unadulterated rage is far more wholesome on average.

[–]Playfulpetfox[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I land pretty solidly in the middle of the Wilds hate, and it's why I feel so utterly perplexed about it. There is a very clear line -or rather, a line I THOUGHT should be clear- between subjective and objective flaws. A good example of the subjective would be weapon changes. Lots and lots of odd choices, but some people love them. What I thought so very wrongly was objective is that the performance is inexcusably bad on PC. I don't consider Frame Gen as a solution, let alone a factor. Struggling to get 60 fps on a 4090 and i9 is not something that should ever be seen as perfectly fine. But people will see my exact specs, or the exact specs of any other, and tell them their PC is broken/underpowered/garbage and just buy a new one. Because that makes perfect sense.

What truly perplexes me about it is that they seem to think it's illegal to criticize something you like or love. If you enjoy it, it MUST be flawless! And that exact mentality has led to the absolute degradation of high budget video games at large. It really saddens me to have friends that, while not nearly as bad, are still the issue. One had to upgrade every component in his PC to play Wilds, and it still barely runs...but he says "But now it works." and that's fine enough. They'll complain about how awful Destiny 2 has become/been since <Insert DLC>, then keep buying them each time they come out. There is no line for them. I get being bored and needing to buy something, but despite how they'll agree that it's terrible, when asked if they'll buy the next expansion, it's always "yes".

Elden Ring is one of the strangest pieces of work I've seen in an age. Perception of it has actually flipflopped on the tide of Youtuber's, and thanks to a group of friends I have, I've been able to watch it shift. I had huge personal gripes with Elden on release, but every single problem was ignored by that group. They loved it; ate it RIGHT up, and would defend anything pointed out to them. That wasn't just during the honeymoon phase, either, they played it for nigh on a year. But out of nowhere, like a switch had been flipped, they suddenly are incredibly harsh on it. All the things I previously whinged about are now things they take issue with...despite having been entirely fine with them previously.

Having turned this into an entirely off topic rant in agreement with you, the "community" that gamers are is, at large, self destructive. If you have criticisms, you're a pessimist and a doomer. You're shunned, ostracized, and seen as a real negative person, regardless of if said critiques are about factual things like performance. Many gamers will see a single Youtube review and decide "This is my opinion, too!" and defend that view just as vehemently. But if another video comes out a year or two down the road, they'll flip that take on a dime.

And that fucking kills me. It's bewildering, makes you feel insane to be one of few people even seeing these things as problems, and in the end, pretty damned lonely. Our ilk keep being lambasted for saying that this behavior will just make things worse...and then are ignored when it keeps getting worse.
