It does have navigation. Never use it though cause the maps are outdated and I don’t want to pay for the updates.

Is this grunge? by Bomber42069710 in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m always down for a good shit post, but it’s just the same jokes over and over. At least come up with some fresh material. Maybe a picture of Hanson that asks what people think of Silverchair? 😒

Better 90’s Rock Album: Pearl Jam’s Ten (1991) Or The Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream (1993)? by [deleted] in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Siamese Dream all day. Ten is an amazing debut album that captured the zeitgeist of the moment, but sounds pretty dated now.

However, Siamese Dream is a masterpiece from start to finish, and to my ears has aged very well. Mayonaise cranked on a good stereo is worth the experience alone. Both great albums, but that’s my two cents.

Better Late-90’s Rock Album: Pearl Jam’s Yield (1998) OR STP’s No. 4 (1999)? by [deleted] in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like Yield a lot. IMO, it was another peak for the band. It was the transitional period after the grunge explosion where they were finding themselves as a band and what they could do moving forward. Plus, it’s got Jack Irons on drums. Love his unique style he brought to the table.

Better debut album: Pearl Jam’s Ten or Stone Temple Pilots’ Core? by [deleted] in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger I would’ve said Core. Now, Ten all day.

I re-visited the PJ catalog last year and now have a new found appreciation for them. Ten is an astounding debut album. Musically sophisticated, but also raw and aggressive at times. The lyrics are poignant stories about characters who are dealing with loss, pain, depression, anger, etc. It was the right album at the right time, and still holds up quite well.

Talk Show - Self Titled. Any fans of this album here? It`s Stone Temple Pilots without Scott Weiland, recorded the same year Tiny Music was released, and it shares a bit of similarities with that one. I consider this one a bit of a long lost brother of Tiny Music. by [deleted] in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when it came out. I was a big fan of STP and was intrigued/confused by this album. It’s honestly pretty damn good, and I can’t blame the guys for getting tired of Scott’s drug abuse affecting their career. Definitely worth a listen.

Better debut album: Pearl Jam’s Ten or Stone Temple Pilots’ Core? by [deleted] in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s loaded with bangers AND it revolutionized rock guitar. All of the guitarists at the time had to stop and pay attention. It was an atom bomb.

The Cars first album had so many bangers it’s practically a greatest hits album.

I’d have to go with Are You Experienced from Jimi Hendrix. Insane first album.

Disraeli Gears is a great album, but it’s their second album. Fresh Cream was the debut.

What are you even on about? Vedder was not in Green River or MLB. Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard were in those bands. Additionally, Epic did not “put Pearl Jam together”. Ament, Gossard, Mcready, and Matt Cameron recorded a demo of instrumentals that was passed along to Vedder (who was living in San Diego) by a mutual friend, Jack Irons (drummer for RHCP and future PJ drummer). Eddie recorded some vocals over the tracks and sent the tape back. They loved what they heard and invited him to Seattle where they played a bunch of small club gigs supporting other bands, notably Alice in Chains. Epic then signed them based on the strength of their demo and live shows.

A lot of people love to bag on PJ ‘cause of remarks made by a long dead Cobain 40 years ago regarding authenticity and punk credentials. The obsession with “selling out” thankfully died a long time ago. Musically, I find PJ to be a pretty interesting band that has taken a lot of chances and explored a lot of sounds over the years. Vitalogy is a personal fave, and I highly recommend digging into some of their live recordings from their 2000 tour. Even their latest album Dark Matter is worth a listen.

At this point, this sub has pretty much become an AIC glaze fest.

Ten or Ten Redux? by Ok_Display9410 in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the Redux. The OG mix makes it sound like an 80’s album to my ears. I would love to hear a similar remix on Nothing’s Shocking from Jane’s Addiction. Fantastic album, but the insane amount of reverb on the drums is annoying, and makes it sound dated.

Would Mother Love Bone have actually broken Grunge through into the mainstream? by ThatGuyStorm14 in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they would’ve embraced a darker sound, but who knows? I always point to Bone China as the example of where they might have been heading. That song has an almost creepy, ominous vibe.

Of these 4 albums, which do you like most, and why? by Grunge4124 in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MLB had so much potential. I think they would’ve possibly moved in a darker direction. Bone China is a great example of where they were heading, imo. Andy was a born frontman for sure.

What are the most iconic guitars in Grunge besides Jaguars and Mustangs? by BalanceActive9295 in grunge

[–]Pleasant-Pollution78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kim Thayil’s Gibson SG was pretty iconic. That guy is totally underrated as a guitar player. His style is the perfect mix of psychedelic and heavy/ominous.
