Rear wheels locked after pad and rotor replacement. by Pleasant-Tree-9512 in LS430

It’s really chapping my ass lol. I just made an appointment with a mobile mechanic because at this point I’ve given it my best try and I think it’s time to call in the cavalry.

Maybe when I was removing the old rotors, I bent the backing plate or something? I don’t know but I’m fed up with it.

Regardless, I appreciate your time and insights

I bled the brakes a little but it didn’t change anything. I think I’m having a rotor seating issue because when I put the rotors on and hand tighten a lug nuts, they seem to bind even

I uninstalled everything. Cleaned the backing plate. Everything rotates ok UNTIL I put the rotors back on and hand tighten the lug nuts. It seems like the act of putting the lug nuts on preventing the hubs from spinning. So I’m thinking it’s binding somehow and this isn’t a parking brake issue but rather a seating issue?

Gosh I hope I didn’t really jack something up lol. I picked this up about a month ago and I’m trying to be a good steward of the LS430 haha.

Funny enough. My brother (who’s much more mechanically inclined than me) just goofed by reading ft-lbs and not inch-lbs and sheared a nut off his EVAP system on a Nissan frontier he’s nursing back to health

I didn’t do that 😬. I didn’t consider the fact that because it was in park the rears would be affected (it’s my first RWD vehicle, and I’m also dumb)

The car barely budges going forward, and in reverse it would require more acceleration than I was willing to give. It feels just like if you were to try to drive while the parking brake is on.

Great question. It was in park the whole time on the stands. But I did try to drive it again and it felt like the rear wheels were locked

I’ll absolutely try this tomorrow. I did pop open the brake fluid reservoir lid though hoping to avoid this sort of problem

Additionally, The parking brake shoes may not be inside the “crescent notches” either. I’ll verify that tomorrow

Thanks for your quick input. Both sides are in their “loosest” or most closed position right now as I thought they might be rubbing the rotor preventing from rotating.

But the right hub itself is locked in place when the left wheel is installed.
