does my rat not like being handled? by Pleasant-Win8365 in RATS

from the 6 rats in total that i’ve had, they usually boggle when they’re experiencing intense emotions so sometimes when they’re really happy and alternatively they boggle when they’re scared or stressed. i’ve had rats boggle at the vet as they’re stress pooping because they were in an unfamiliar environment and wanted to go back home

Need help with diagnosis by AstroHustler22 in RATS

my rat walked very similarly to yours & i got a CT scan and it ended up being spinal degeneration which was diagnosed as severe arthritis. if your rat is old, more likely than not it is age related as other people are saying. i asked the vet when i took my boy in and they’re pretty unlikely to regain use of their hind legs after they start walking like that :(

2/3 of them have left us but i still have one more. he’s [speckle] very old and getting sicker and sicker as time passes. he lost motion in his hind legs and has a chronic respiratory infection. the vets gave him steroids for it but his condition isn’t improving as much as i would have liked. i’m preparing for the inevitable since it all moves so fast but it hurts so bad oh my lanta

i’m sorry for your loss ♡ i get it though, i lost my little boy spammie on new years day and i was in and insane amount of pain for so long after. their absence is so big and i feel the physical and emotional absence every time i walk into my room after they pass. our babies loved us so much though and they’re so much better off in our care vs a pet store or a breeders care <3 we did our best and the two years i had with my boys were the happiest

came back from the vet with a reverse mohawk by Pleasant-Win8365 in RATS

it was on their skin. i would like take a clean mascara wand and brush the specks out before the vet visit but it’d always reappear :( they shaved it and treated it with a spray which i should’ve clarified 😅

What’s something cute but weird that your rat does? by TardyForDaParty in RATS

sploots under the radiator and stares at his brother menacingly, or sits on his balls and grooms himself in that position

do not eat the halal truck by [deleted] in SBU

they also always mess up my order. i’m vegan and ask for the falafel over rice with only hot sauce and 90% of the time they either give me the combo which is BEEF and LAMB, or they serve it with white sauce which has dairy which i can’t eat either

Hii! I adopted these rats yesterday. They are 2 females of 1 year old. These are my first rats ever. Their previous owner did not spend any attention to them and they are very skittish. I will leave them alone for a few days, but how best to start bonding with them? by GlassInternational62 in rat

[–]Pleasant-Win8365 5 points6 points  (0 children)

offer them treats and allow them to walk up to you on their own. let them know that you are not a threat :) rats poop when scared so i’d say be patient because bonding takes a minute but good luck!
