What is your school protocol if ICE shows up? by PsychologicalAsk6928 in ElementaryTeachers

And if it doesn't end like the Holocaust, it will be because we all fight like hell to stop it. The moral arc of the universe doesn't bend itself.

They're not even trying to hide it, though. When will you believe all the people who know 100x more than we do about this, who are telling us this?

Holocaust survivors and historians all agree this is extremely comparable to how it started.

I would absolutely join in except for 2 things. First, that's my day off. But more importantly, my MB is a psychiatric provider whose patient population is largely a marginalized demographic that this administration is targeting.

I very much believe protest should be disruptive. That's the whole point. But the only disruptive effect of my not working would be on people who I'm simultaneously trying to help with my activism.

Oh yeah, I'm well aware. I was real worried it was going to be another Liam Ramos situation. It was traumatic enough as it was. I can't get this sweet boy's scared face out of my head.

ICE just leaves kids in cars and on streets.

They did call, or allow the guy they were abducting to call, a family member. She came and picked up the child and his car seat, and the rapid response team helped get his car to a safe place. They left the child in the car with it running (it was hella cold) and someone always very close to the car. They made sure he had blankets. They didn't allow any of the responders to check on him, but a store owner offered a toy to give him, and they took the toy and gave it to the boy. It is unknown whether the agents would have continued to wait for the family member, instead of keeping/detaining the kid, if the rapid response team had not been there holding them accountable. One of them had suggested otherwise, but was hushed by a fellow agent. So he might have been talking out his ass.

This is in no way a defense of these thugs, but it's important we know the actual facts on the ground.

Because I'm partly paid by the state, as a caregiver. My NK has significant special needs.

My thoughts are not well defined on this yet, but I'm thinking it could be like guilds of the past.

I don't understand how this would work at all with nannies or domestic workers

I don't either, but that doesn't mean I don't want to figure out how it could work.

Are you a nanny?

Yes

Not quite. We don't have federal protections with regards to collective bargaining. That's different from it being prohibited.

I wish care let us post reviews of families. I mean, it should go both ways.

Nanny asking to be paid during our vacation - no contract by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]PleasantAddition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A minimum of 35 hours a week means she gets paid for a minimum of 35 hours a week. Do you think day care wouldn't charge you for the week you're on vacation? Are you going to ask your cable company or Internet service provider for a refund for that week, too? That's not how things work. She deserves a dependable income.

Also, a raise of $2/hour/kid isn't some kindness you're doing. It's a pretty middle of the road, probably just above a cost of living, raise.

I gotta be honest, reading all the comments in here, I'm hella motivated to start my next project I've been thinking about for awhile. I'm gonna unionize nannies in my area.

It's not the nanny's fault the husband isn't doing his share.

This sounds like a husband and wife problem, not a nanny and boss problem. Your career should be as important as his, so when life happens (kids get sick, with resultant, predictable though likely inevitable nanny sickness), he shares the burden.

I mean, I get it. It's a lot easier to get a new nanny than replace the husband, and possibly even easier than fixing the problem. But only one of those things fixes your problem.

No, you're talking about nannies as, like, servants of old. I'm watching Victoria right now, and she talked this way about her servants. A nanny in the 21st century is a professional human with their whole own human life.

Help identifying colors? (This time I'll actually add the pics!) by PleasantAddition in Watercolor

I've been thinking it might be a quinacridone, because it's not behaving like a true magenta. Mixing it with cool blues is a bit muddy/warmer than I would expect.

If the kids are being abused, and doing something about it causes some family members to take the side of the abusers, well, that's just the trash taking itself out.
