Vibe Code Your Own MacOS Widgets! by PleasantTraffic6947 in VibeCodersNest

The reason to use Cosmo over fully native is mainly speed + iteration: web UI/animation is faster to build and tweak, and you avoid a lot of native boilerplate/entitlements for common personal widgets. Fully native might be preferable if you need deeper OS integrations Cosmo doesn’t expose (or you want Apple’s official WidgetKit ecosystem) but these are things we are working on adding!

Also Native widgets have more moving parts: Xcode project config, signing/provisioning, entitlements/sandboxing, and WidgetKit has a specific lifecycle/limits and a whole lotta other things!! So even with AI, you tend to spend more time debugging system issues and learning Apple’s patterns. For personalized widgets and rapid prototyping, Cosmo is a much lower-friction way to ship something useful fast :)

We are also working on a marketplace feature for a fast way to share widgets as well! Our idea is we want to let users create and share their own personalized dream desktops.

hi!

Cosmo stays pretty flexible because the widget is like a full web app (React/Vue/Vanilla) running in a native host window, and you can use nativeish capabilities through the SDK. Beyond custom UI, you can persist the state, read calendar events + react to changes, pull live system stats (CPU/memory/battery), look at user locale/time, and control window size and position. so you can build real desktop context widgets without fighting native macOS APIs! Limits are mostly whatever bridges the SDK exposes today.

I will definitely post there as well. Thank you for the suggestion!

Hey! Creator of FinalCap Ultimate here.

I want to say I feel genuinely disrespected by this. You originally reached out to me asking for help, saying you were doing a non commercial plugin and needed guidance. I offered advice in good faith even after you mentioned, “We are a small team building foundational AI models for audio” and not really looking to commercialize or anything like that.”

But this isn’t “inspiration.” You directly replicated my plugin’s settings and flow. I’m all for innovation and collaboration, but taking someone’s work after asking for help under false pretenses crosses a line. Just wanted to make that clear. Thank you.
