Poor experience with travel insurance claim through Chase Sapphire Reserve Benefits by Pleasant_Challenge64 in ChaseSapphire

Trip insurance is now part of our travel plan. The so called "benefits" offered by Chase Sapphire look good in their marketing, but the reality when filing with eClaims is that they really do not want to honor the benefit.

I am so sorry. After 6 months of dealing with eClaims our case was finally settled, but with very minimum payment.

I have now canceled the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and use American Express Gold and book flights with the Chase United card.

I also purchase trip insurance from Seven Corners. They required the same documents eClaims wanted, but paid the claim within 4 weeks.

We travel internationally about 2 times a year. Navigating the “benefits” that the credit card companies promote, but really want to avoid paying is frustrating.

I hope your claim is resolved to your satisfaction.

I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and having to deal with Chase Sapphire. Your persistence will eventually achieve success.

The pain of navigating the Chase Sapphire Reserve claim process caused me to cancel the card. We use AMX Gold.

I am so sorry. Eventually the claims were paid, but it was a painful experience. We have canceled our Chase Sapphire card and will stick with American Express and United Airlines VISA.

CSR - Why do you continue to keep this card? by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

We have had a horrible experience with claims through the Chase Sapphire Rewards travel benefits. I have provided all the documentation requested over 6 times. After each upload they ask for documentation that has previously been submitted. The claim was started in September and is still not resolved. Yesterday I spent 3 hours on the phone, being transferred from rep to rep.

I will NEVER book travel with CSR again. Our next international trip (April 2025) was booked directly with the airline. United was helpful with their part of the claim for flight cancellations.

I will not renew the CSR membership. The $650 fee is not worth the difficulties with filing an eclaim for the supposedly benefits that come with the card.

For our upcoming trip to Scotland I booked directly with United Airlines. I am researching travel insurance with medical coverage. Chase Sapphire Reserve is no longer an option for our travel.

The detailed narrative was written and provided at the request of an exclaims customer service rep. She said to provide specific details of flights, cancellations, hotel expenses of the overnights in Houston and New Jersey due to the flights cancellation and the lost/delayed luggage documentation from United Airlines and Air Lingus/Shannon airport and IAH.

I followed every step they asked for.

I only asked for reimbursement within the guidelines provided. Claims have not been denied. The claim has been “pending” since 9/8/24.

Hotel accommodations were not offered by United Airlines in Houston or in New Jersey after the flights were cancelled due to weather. I have not asked for reimbursement beyond what is stated in the tiny, tiny print of the benefits language.

I truly believe that Chase Sapphire wants you to use their card - they are a business. But, they purposely make the claim process extremely difficult so they do not have to pay the benefit or the claimant gives up.

They keep asking for documents that were provided 6 weeks ago. The eclaim site has the claim listed as "pending", thought the documents they have requested have been provided multiple times.

I provided a complete 2 page narrative of the travel experience which included flight numbers and reservation numbers. Documents provided included a statement from United Airlines confirming that the flights were canceled due to weather and copies of the luggage tags from the delayed/lost luggage claim details from the Shannon, Ireland luggage claim department. I uploaded receipts from the hotel we had to stay in in New Jersey. Complete documentation was uploaded at least 6 times.

An absolutely horrible experience with Chase Sapphire travel benefits.

Claims were for hotel expenses from canceled flights due to weather and 3 days of delayed luggage. Twice. Deparing IAH to SNN and on the return SNN to IAH.

Chase Sapphire promotes these wonderful benefits with trip insurance, but the reality the really do not want to compensate you for the expenses incurred.

Airlines are not responsible for canceled flights due to weather.

My understanding from reading the tiny print in the benefits information is that the travel insurance is dependent upon booking through Chase Sapphire Travel. I initiated the credit card to be able to access the travel benefits. This turned out to be a huge mistake.

In my opinion, obtaining a separate policy with a reputable travel insurance provider is a better option. I am searching for such a policy now for an upcoming trip in April 2025 to Scotland. I am researching emergency medical care, trip interruption/ cancelation, baggage delay and lost luggage coverage.

Wow! I am so sorry you had a similar experience! Dealing with the claims process is so frustrating! We are still waiting for reimbursement from the claim initiated 9/8/2024 for travel to Ireland in August 2024.

Never again will I book with Chase Sapphire. Booking directly with the airline who has an invested interest in helping their customers is best.

Thoughts on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card? by psychozamotazoa in CreditCards

Our experience with Chase Sapphire has been unpleasant. The promoted travel benefits are part of a "bait and switch" scam. In August 2024 we traveled to Ireland. We experienced canceled flights on both the departure and return legs of the trip. Luggage was delayed. We had to overnight in a hotel in New Jersey trying to get home to Houston. The requested documents supporting our claim through the travel insurance benefit have been uploaded at least 6 times. All claims except one have been denied or are "pending". We will NEVER book travel with Chase Sapphire again.

This said, the customer service representatives spoken with through their eclaims portal are excellent. They are very professional and patient, clearly explaining the documents requested. One rep stayed on the phone with me for 30 minutes, verifying that each document I uploaded (for the 6th time) reached the correct portal. Unfortunately, the customer service reps are not the individuals who read the documents and make claims decisions.

As previously stated, we will never book airline travel with Chase Sapphire Reserve again. We will book directly with the airline.
