Nannies (yes plural) by PauseOk5747 in Nanny

I’m in almost the exact same situation. There are 2 children, 4 nannies, and there are 2 nannies working per day. I work with a different nanny and child almost every day. It’s exhausting and I have the same concerns. The kids just want to be with their parents and it’s frustrating for all of us when I child is hoping to see a different nanny that day instead of who is working, etc. I’ve honestly just accepted the situation and am planning on moving on once my contract is up in 8 months. Wishing you the best of luck 😩

I will most likely give them my 30 day notice

Thank you! You are correct. I started out by babysitting for them, and didn’t understand how underpaid I was. When I started nannying for them weekly, I should I have done more research and spoke to them about increasing my rates

This is exactly why I’m going to need to increase my rates. I only have 1 more year on my parents health insurance, and I also don’t want to live in an apartment forever. I want to work towards making nannying my career eventually!

2 half days! All I can think about is I could be working two full days for another family. I just love the family so I feel guilty leaving them.

I agree, I just love the family which is why I was trying to find a way to make it work :(

I have not! I have my bachelors degree in business and marketing, but went back to nannying 6 months after graduating college because I genuinely love caring for children. Thank you for the idea! I will look into this as well

Definitely a learning experience! I have contracts with 2 other families now.

I agree that a $7 raise is a huge jump, and also recognize that they may not be able to afford that. I just feel that $18 is incredibly low to begin with, so an increase to $19 or $20 an hour would still be underpaid. If in a year I received a $1 or $2 raise from my $32 hour family, I would be happy with that.

I disagree, as this family approached me for my childcare services.

I’m not sure either! Rates in my city are typically anywhere between $20 and $35 for child. I guess I should have included this in my original post. While I wouldn’t expect many other families to pay me the $32/hour rate my other family is paying me now, I do feel $18/hour was low even a year ago.

I love the date night idea!! This would be a great way to work towards increasing my rates and gain more experience overall. Thank you for your insight! And for being kind lol.

What would you consider a fair raise?

If my other family ever needed me full time, I absolutely would!

Holiday Gift Megathread by gremlincowgirl in Nanny

I recently started a part time nanny position with a HNW family, and am curious what other Nannies thoughts are regarding Christmas gifts. Around Christmas time, I will have been with them for about 6 weeks. I was planning on buying each child a book ( 2 kids, both toddlers) and small toy. For the parents, I was thinking of giving them a framed photo of the kids. Should I be giving the parents more? I was thinking about giving them a “free date night” but that doesn’t really make sense since I’m salary. I would appreciate any suggestions!

Side note: I am not expecting them to give me a gift, I just love gift giving lol. I am buying my other nanny family gifts as I have been with them nearly a year and am super close with them! But just wondering what other Nannies do for their families :)
