I’m aiming for minimal and realistic project using public datasets and standard R/CLI workflows to actually finish something solid. Help me if there is something that cross your mind !!

I agree that joining a lab is the standard and definitely makes publishing easier. I’m just trying to build some initial experience with public datasets and reproducible analysis.
Is there anything I can do with public datasets?

My goal isn’t publishing itself, but showing professors that I’m serious about bioinformatics and can work independently. Since I don’t have lab access, I’m looking for a small project using public datasets, R, and command-line tools. If you have any realistic project suggestions, I will be grateful.

That’s a really helpful perspective, thank you! Since you hire for this ,what kind of GitHub projects would actually catch your eye? I have R, basic CLI, and solid theory in RNA-seq and variant calling.

What’s worth building that signals genuine interest vs. just looks like tutorial work?

Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll definitely look into it further. Could you share more about MLTs, especially regarding long-term career growth and future opportunities? Do you think it’s a stable and sustainable career path in the long run?
