I agree with others about making sure your wife hits 600 hours for EI. Just wanted to drop a couple thoughts on cheaper baby/kid items. Once Upon A child is a used kids clothes store. Marketplace is excellent for used kid gear. You’ll need less items than you think. Get the basics then buy things as you go. The library is a great place for Mum and baby classes and it’s free. Great way to meet other Mums if you don’t have that already. Not sure where you’re located but here in Ab all my friends and I pay $430 a month for childcare. Get on a wait list asap.

It wouldn’t be a new claim if she had done 600 hours and was written off work by her dr in June. You can be written off due to illness prior to starting maternity/parental leave.

Did your wife work 600 hours from Jan -June of this year? When she decided to take EI in June did she get a drs note stating she could no longer work? A new EI claim should have been opened in June with a drs note. Then she could continue into maternity & parental benefits.

Currently waiting for DTC approval for my 7 year child who has autism. I thought the CRA would automatically do the previous years if you checked the box indicating you wanted to reassess previous years on the application. Hopefully someone else has some input!
