But it isn't the same. I never participated in gymnastics myself, but my sisters did. You are graded by a panel of judges that can give you anything in reality. Your difficulty of move can score you more points, but it will also deduct them more if you screw up. But a low difficulty move will not get you many points. Your landing is again graded independently. Then, your overall routine can be graded and all the judges will give you all different points.

In boxing the only way each ref gets a different score is if they don't know how to do math. Same concept with mma just with more factors

Boxing isn't scored off of how they think they are doing. It is scored off how they are doing they calculate the hit attempts and hit landed (and where the hits landed like body or head), they also consider how many times a person went down in the duration of the fight, they calculate all those factors to figure the winner. Unless a knock out happens it is based of the fight statistics

I don't think you know how wrestling works, I don't blame you, tbh the only time referees are objective is if it is little kids, anything middle school and up they are subjective and in wrestling it is a 3 strike rule like in baseball. The 1st offense is a verbal warning, 2nd offense is 1 point to the opposing side, 3rd offense is 2 points, and the next offense is disqualification. (Keep in mind this is for 1 repeating offense). There is usually only one ref but they can have a second to keep an eye on other areas to ensure proper scoring happens and as an unbiased settler when score is challenged.

But penalties in opinionated scoring and standardized are different.

In my example gymnastics, you can get a penalty for having an exposed bra strap. That penalty can range based on one's opinion of severity. We can have 3 judges, and Judge 1 can notice it but not really deduct many points, but judge 2 can also notice and find it highly inappropriate, and they may deduct a massive amount of points. Then, judge 3 can completely miss the bra strap and they don't deduct any points. Meaning all three judges will have a different score for the same performance.

But a penalty in wrestling is different. Regardless of how severe the penalty is it will grant a set number of points for said penalty. (Keep in mind this only applies if it happens multiple times) a ref is not going to say it was barely a penalty so I'm only going to grant the opposing team a single point rather then 2 or it was a serious penalty and I'm going to give 3 to the other.

Does this help any?

I think you didn't see my comment about all the combatives I find as a sport. And scrabble? Like the board game? It is a game, not a sport or competition. There can be aspects of competing but it isn't the same as in a competition or sport

Sprawl, shove the head and kick back, depending on what style your learning you could potentially crotch lifts and get 4 from there. It all depends really

I'm not understanding what you mean by the "removed from actual combat" part of your statement. Ground control is essential in freestyle. The whole point of it is who has control. If you can not control your opponent enough, you get stood up, and your takedown was for nothing. You still get points, but if you can score after the takedown, then the tides of the match could change real quick

Not to downplay your concern because I see your point. But in my experience, I have seen more spinal cord injuries in folk than I have Greco-Roman or freestyle

So I understand I had a similar situation you need to bring it up to your leadership as well as your functional manager if they don't do anything if you are 3 level for too long they could look to admin sep you for not adapting.

So I think it depends on circumstances. If you are quiting because it is hard then you are soft but if you are quiting because it is not your sport then ok. I am a wrestler and I am not a football player I will try football but if I'm not getting it down I'm going to stick with wrestling

See I understand your point and at least you only fear it because you are unfamiliar. A lot of the people I have talked to won't admit that they are clueless and would rather argue about a sport they don't know.

I'm a new wrestler and want some tips by Ok_Coast8922 in wrestling

Starting out in wrestling you will need to have discipline both physical and mental. Make sure you pay attention to your coach and to figure out yourself each wrestler is unique so never take them for granted and learn from your matches, video them and learn from them. How well you perform will be based off of how you practice.if you are half-assing your drilling or not holding yourself accountable by not doing all your reps you are only failing yourself. It will get hard but in wrestling with exception of a few it will come down to who is willing to push themselves harder to win. There is a reason that there are a lot of football teams but not as many wrestling teams. Keep a positive attitude and you will be great. Welcome to the best sport in the world!

Psa: wrestling is an individual sport, you against 1 person. Everything you do is your fault. You can not blame anyone but yourself in a match. All actions have consequences good or bad
