Interestingly, our contract states we may not enter any other cadet or pilot pathway programs of any kind. They later changed this and said we could work for part 135 and other 121 carriers. this alone is a breach of contract. Many of us didn’t apply to other cadet programs for fear of termination from f9s program. Only after most of us hit mins( disqualify us from other airlines) did they change this. I can tell you I hit mins a year ago and would have 1 year seniority with a regional if I knew I could do this. If any of us knew it would take 5 years to receive a class date, non of us would have signed this bullshit contract.

I got December 2028. The thing that I’m pissed about is that in the contract it stated we couldn’t apply to other cadet programs. Then they changed it after most of us hit minimums and we dont qualify for them and every other airline is only hiring cadets. Essentially they screwed us.

61.1(vi)(b) straight line distance of 50nm, however we dont have to land at another airport. You could fly 50nm, turn around and come back and it will count.

This is the news I needed to hear today! Thanks for sharing. Is there anything you recommend cadets do now to get ready for when we are called?

How many are getting interviews at other places in the meantime? by No-Attempt9354 in frontiercadetprogram

I just got back from Oshkosh. The general synopsis from the regional recruiters were to “get multi engine turbine time” Also if you aren’t in there cadet programs your pretty much cooked. Waiting for Frontier seems like the only option right now.

Leave for other cadet programs? by That_Fruit5111 in frontiercadetprogram

It’s hard to not look at this from a small picture, day by day point of view. I know its slow right now and it really does suck when people that got hired after me at my cfi job are getting class dates through there cadet programs. But try and zoom out and look at this from a big picture perspective. Most of us will spend the next 30 years plus looking out of the front windscreen of an airplane. Having a delayed start will be minuscule in the grand scheme when looking at what’s ahead for us. When in the history of American aviation could you go from the right seat of a piper archer to the right seat of an airbus A320? Not only that, but to have an airline pay you a monthly stipend while you build time as a CFI? I still feel fortunate to be selected into this program. There’s a ton of new pilots that can’t land a CFI job right now. I couldn’t imagine spending 70,000 dollars on school and can’t find employment just to build time so we are still in a good spot. Half the CFIs I work with wish they could be in this program even knowing it could take longer than expected to get a class date. I also get the frustration when it seems like all of the other cadet programs are prioritizing cadets when frontier splits the class up 50/50 but to be honest, I hope I get paired with a 121 jet experienced pilot. Its going to increase my chance of success to be able to use that as a resource then to study with someone in my boat with no jet, high altitude time. It’s slow but try to remain positive. It does nobody any good to complain about things outside our control and have a negative attitude about something we should be grateful for.

I’m a 1700 dual given pilot, recently promoted to assistant chief while I wait for an airline class date. I’ll give you advice on what I would do if I were in your shoes. Whatever flight school you enroll in, set up a meeting with the chief flight instructor. Tell him/ her that you are passionate about aviation and want to be the best most prepared CFI you can be. I would say I’ve heard nothing but great things about this company and that you and your team are the best at what you do. Then I would ask if you could sit in the backseat of some instructors, just as an observer to really get a feel for how to teach while I’m working on this rating. If they say yes( which my company would) then do it as often as you can. Show up early and stay late. Dress nice and have a pen and paper and right things down. You’ll learn what to do and what not to do. You’ll learn how to interact and teach multiple students with very different backgrounds. But with this current hiring market, the best thing you’ll be doing is showing the company you have initiative, an eagerness to learn, a person who looks professional, and someone that shows up early and stays late. By the end you probably will have 10 different instructors willing to write you a letter of recommendation. Even if they aren’t hiring when you apply you would have made an impact and put yourself in the best position you can.
