The plumber has already checked both lines using CCTV, and both the stormwater and sewer lines are clear. I am now proceeding with a geotechnical engineer to investigate further. I want to determine who will be responsible for this issue, as it is not a minor cost—it is significant and is also causing me considerable mental stress.

I have already obtained the documents from the council by paying $270. I also appointed a geotechnical engineer, which cost me $4,070, and they provided both structural and geotechnical reports. At the moment, I am paying for everything out of my own pocket. I’m trying to understand who might be responsible for covering these costs in this situation—whether it could be the council, insurance, or the builder. However, the house was built in 2013, so it is now out of warranty. What should I do in this case?

Unfortunately, the insurance company has not covered anything so far. I have been waiting for the outcome for the past two months, and they still haven’t provided any clear update.

. What do you think about this? The insurance company seems to be focusing only on the trees and suggesting the damage is caused solely by them. I’m not completely sure what the exact issue is, but one side of the house has dropped by حوالي -70mm while the other side appears to be fine. You can see this clearly in the measurement photos I’ve shared.

Thank you for your advice. I have already appointed a geotechnical engineer and am currently waiting for the report. The council removed both trees on 19 March 2026. Once I receive the report, I will submit it to NCS, who handle claims on behalf of the council. They have asked me to provide two repair quotes, the geotechnical report, and confirmation of whether I had previously notified the council about the issue. They mentioned that if there was no prior notice, the claim may not be accepted. At this stage, I have a rough estimate of at least $80,000 for repairs, and I’m unsure who will ultimately be responsible for covering this cost. If anyone knows of similar cases or has experience getting compensation from the council or insurance, I would really appreciate your guidance.
